What are good things to do in New York with only a day?

Q. I have one day in New York in early August for a meeting, and I have about 8 hours before the meeting to see the city. I'll be staying in a hotel about a block from Madison Square Garden, and I would rather not ride around in a Taxi if I can avoid it. Thanks!

A. You'll be a stone's throw away from the Empire State Building and a 10-15 minute walk to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park and the UN. If you jump on the subway or a bus you'll have plenty of time to head uptown to Central Park and Museum Mile or downtown to the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street/WTC (a.k.a. Ground Zero), etc.. What are some great things to do for teens in New York City?
Q. My best friend and I are both 15. We can both easily pass for 16 though if it is necessary. Anyway, next Monday and Tuesday we are going to New York City! I was wondering what are some awesome things to do for us? Please be specific!
It would be really nice to know some night clubs or fun places for teens at night that we can go to. We are totally cool with sneaking out of the hotel too!
Please help!

A. I like going to Central Park. If it's warm you HAVE to go.
You should also visit Times Sq. @ night. The darkness makes all the lights astounding. You need to go shopping in Times Sq, too. There's a Macy's (the worlds largest store, i think) an aeropostale, Daffy's, H & M, Century 21, and an American Eagle.
You also have got to go to China Town. The shopping and food there is absolutely amazing. Make sure you haggle with the vendors at the shops, and the people in stores though,(not at restaurants, obviously) or else they'll rip you off.
Also, check to see if any of your favorite bands/ artists are playing in NYC and try and get tickets. Me and my BFF have seen Katy Perry, and Green Day. It's so much fun to go to concerts, so if you can, get tickets.
For restaurants, walk around the place you're staying at, or greenwich village, and explore, and than choose a restaurant.
5th avenue also has great (if expensive) shopping.
If you guys are into iceskating, you can go skating at a bunch of places (chelsea piers, rockefeller center, bryant park, woolston rink, etc.)
Have fun in the city.
