What is the best directory to find hotels without having a booking engine?

Q. I am looking for a way to find hotels but I don't want to book them online, I want to book hotels by either calling them or going to there independent website. The reason for this is I figured out booking engine sites charge more money for using them to book. I have saved substantial amounts of money by booking directoy from the hotels. What I am looking for is a directory just for hotels and most importantly has the hotels independent website and phone number, please help..!?

A. You can use the systems on internet to find hotels, read reviews and even see how much they would charge and if they have rooms available for when you want to go.
Then you make a note of the name of the hotel and use a search engine (google or something like that) to find the website of the hotel or a hotel listing for the town.
With that information you can phone them.

Of course, you can also just use Google to find hotels without using the booking sites, but I found they have useful information about the hotels, certainly when you find one that has reliable reviews.

The old way is to buy a guidebook, buy the one made for your kind of budget, and phone based on the reviews in that book.
For backpackers and budget travelers the Lonely Planet series are great, but if you like 4 star hotels they will not be as helpful.

Which site would be the best to start looking depends on where as much as how expensive. I would just spend an hour or so and do several searches, both using a booking site as first source and using a search engine without a booking site to.

How do hotels supply enough hot water for every room?
Q. In some hotels there are over three thousand rooms. What enables this huge supply of hot water? Hot water eventually goes at my house, but why not at hotels?

A. Most large hotels have very large steam boilers with what's called an indirect hot water system that gives a virtually endless supply of hot water.
Some of this is based on the fact that not every room will "call" for hot water at the same time, do that, & you might run it out, but not likely.
The reason that the water is hot pretty much instantaneously is they have a hot water return system which is basically a pipe that forces cold water back to the boiler before it can escape from the hot water tap.
Hope this shed a little light on the question!!

What hotels near to the center of the Los Vegas strip allow 18 year olds?
Q. My friends and I are planning a vacation for the summer. Unfortunately, we are all 18 and 19 and most hotels require a minimum age of 21 to register. Are there any hotels in the center or near to the center of the main strip that allow 18 or 19 year olds to register? Thanks!

A. The only hotel on the strip that still allows 18+ check-in is Riviera, and it's toward the north end of the strip. It's not very close to most of the action, but there is a monorail stop nearby.

The only other nearby hotel that will allow 18+ check-in is Las Vegas Hilton - it's just off the strip. All other hotels on and near the strip are 21+. The other 18+ hotels/motels are those that are farther out from all the touristy areas.
