Which area in Istanbul considered a good place to start your sightseeing from?

Q. I need to choose a hotel in agood area to go sightseeing from it, is Taksim good area to stay there and start my sightseeing?

A. Hi,
Taksim is a good area to start.
The place is very close to Bosphorus. I recommend a boat tour.
You can reach to old Istanbul from Taksim easily. A must to see area.
Around Taksim you can take a walk in Istiklal street. A street full of old Greek buildings, churches.
Another choice can be a hotel in old Istanbul ( around Sultanahmet square.) You can reach most of the interesting , historical places easily, by walk.

Have a nice trip.

How long would it take to go from Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Sultanahmet ( Istanbul ) or too all the main sites?
Q. Travelling next month to Sabiha Gokcen and hotel is in sultanahmet near topkapi and blue mosque etc how long would it take to get there from the airport in a taxi and how much would it cost?
Thank you all answers much appreciated!!

A. Hi,

http://www.taksimetrik.com/

This site is a very useful one that I use to check how much it will cost if I take a cab from a place to place.

Nereden means "From" and Nereye means "To" . Type Sabiha Gökçen in the 1st box and Sultanahmet to 2nd box. I'm telling you this because you might need to use this to check from anyplace to anywhere at Istanbul. Go a bit below you will see approx. cost of the taxi 68.98 Lira and If you go a little bit more you'll see a text at the right side of the screen says "45,8 km (yaklaÅık 54 dakika)" that means approx. 54 minutes. Dakika means minute.

It will cost you 70 Lira and that's about 30â¬. I personally recommend you to use "HavaÅ" and "HavataÅ" buses, they are private firms that provide traveling from airport into the city. I think it'll cost around 20 Lira (Not sure about that but definitely cheaper then cab but you might have to use multiple transportation to get there.

It'll take 1 hour via cab and 2 hours via other transportation. This can vary by the traffic (which is awful at rainy days and holidays)

It's your choice the expensive way is faster and the other way takes time and effort but cheaper.

Have a nice holiday

P.S. Feel free to ask more if you have any questions
