How much is a train ticket from Veneto to the heart of Venice?

Q. My hotel in Veneto is 7 minutes walking from the train station, but I am trying to figure out if it would be easier and/or cheaper to book a Venice hotel, rather than go back and forth.

A. It would depend where you are coming from. Generally it is a fairly good idea to stay outside Venice and travel into Venice by train if you would like to save money. It also is very easy to do.

Some sites that might offer help on Venice in general and the train costs are:

Does anyone know where I can find Venice Carnival hotels and info?
Q. Hi I'll be heading over to the Venice Carnical next year. Any advice on where to stay and what to see.

A. For things to see try:
- Piazza San Marco
- St. Mark's Basilica
- Ducal Palace
- Grand Canal (of course)

Try this site for info on the Carnival of Venice 2010

They also have a lot of hotels

Early transportation from Venice hotel to airport?
Q. I am visiting Venice and staying near the Rialto Bridge. My flight back home is at 6:30am. Are there taxis that can take me to the airport or do I need to take a vaporetto? Do vaporettos even run as early as 3:30am (when I should leave for the international flight)?

Will I need to go to the train station and take the train to the airport? I will be exhausted so I am OK with paying more for the quickest way to get to the airport.

Thanks!

A. The earliest bus (#35) leaves Piazzale Roma about 5:00 and arrives at the airport at about 5:20. As indicated at the bottom of the schedules page it leaves from the D2 stop: http://www.atvo.it/orari/pdf_airport/mpolovenezia.pdf

Your best bet is a taxi from Piazzale Roma to the airport. It takes about 20 minutes like the bus.

There is an Alilaguna boat on the Blu line that leaves from the San Marco stop at 3:40 am and arrives at the airport at approximately 5 am. The schedule is here: http://www.alilaguna.it/?funzione=120&idstazione0=2&idstazione1=5&fascia=5&x=22&y=15 The boats from the Rialto stop to the airport don't run that early.

Personally, I would go with the taxi from Piazzale Roma.
