Places to stay in Chicago?

Q. I'm going to Chicago for Spring Break and we are staying for 3 days, and then driving down to St. Louis. It will be my first time in Chicago. I've heard of some pretty nice places to stay in Chicago, but they are a little too expensive for me. Could you list some nice hotels (i like modern and contemporary, anything except for old style with green carpet, LOL) under $200 per night. $150 or less would be great! Thanks!

A. Try these hotels:

The Wyndham, The Whitehall, The Knickerbocker, or Best Western River North.

Those hotels always have pretty low rates and are in great locations. Their rates today are from $99-$150, but right now it's the slow season for hotels downtown, so around Spring Break those rates are going to go up by maybe $50.

You can always go through hotels.com or expedia.com and find some pretty good rates, especially at the hotels mentioned. But for that price you can't be picky about green carpets and such, any modern/contemporary hotel in the city like the James or the Monaco is going to be about $300 per night.

*If you can get a good rate, the Hotel Allegro at Randolph & LaSalle was just completely gutted and renovated...new flat screens and iPod docking stations in the rooms, free internet, free wine from 5pm-6pm every day. Mid March is about $219-$250 if you booked today.

A. G'day Worldstiti,

Thanks for your question.

I haven't stayed at the Hammond Indiana Casino Hotel. The price seems expensive but the facilities are pretty flash to try and attract the high rollers.

Interestingly, Yahoo! Travel doesn't list it but does list these places to stay.

1. Best Western Inn$59
2. Residence Inn by Marriott$149
3. Home-Towne LodgeN/A
4. AmeriHost Inn$84
5. Ramada Inn$74
6. Best Western Northwest Indiana$59
7. Fairfield Inn by Marriott$109
8. Courtyard by Marriott$109
9. Jefferson HotelN/A
10. Super 8 Motel$52

The price you have been quoted also seems to be dearer than most places in Chicago itself. The top ten hotels in Chicago according to Yahoo! Travel are:

1. Swissotel Chicago$189
2. Holiday Inn Chicago-Mart Plaza$135
3. The Whitehall Hotel$249
4. Amalfi Hotel Chicago$169
5. Howard Johnson Inn$109
6. Holiday Inn Chicago-City Centre$124
7. Four Seasons Hotel Chicago$395
8. Loews House of Blues Hotel$229
9. SpringHill Suites by Marriott$89
10. The Westin Chicago River North$179

If it were me, I would stay in Chicago unless you are desperate to go to the Casino. The top 10 attractions in Chicago according to Yahoo! Travel are:

1. Art Institute of Chicago (The) Architecture
2. Museum of Science and Industry Science
3. John G. Shedd Aquarium & Oceanarium Zoos, Farms
4. Field Museum (The) General History
5. Millenium Park Day Trips
6. Sears Tower Skydeck Attractions
7. Taste of Chicago Other
8. Oprah Winfrey Show (The) Attractions
9. Buckingham Fountain Attractions
10. Chinatown Attractions

You can find more by looking around Yahoo! Travel.

I have attached some sources for your reference.

Hope you and your boyfriend have a great time.

Regards

Recommendations??
Q. Seems like my husband has decided to want to vaca in Chicago instead of Colorado. So with that being said...Can anyone recommend a historic, preferably HAUNTED hotel in Chicago?? Thanks!

A. I picked these hotels because they look as if they could be haunted (they are vintage class) but I don't know if they are! They are all downtown and all nice, at least I think so. In Chicago, prices are a good indication as it is very competitive.

Whitehall Hotel
Hotel Allegro Chicago
The Tremont Hotel
The Allerton Hotel
The Drake Chicago
Hilton Chicago (Elizabeth Taylor's first marriage was here)
