which is better to visit key west or miami?

Q. planning a vacation next sept 29- oct 6 to disney world for 4 nights and then we wanted to drive down to cheack miami or key west. which place is better?? i was looking for a cheap but nice hotel that will sleep 5, or 2 cheap rooms. would like something close to the beach. what is there to do that don't cost much money? so if any one knows a good place to stay and great things to do that ould help alot.

A. About this time there are good hotel breaks in the Keys but Key Largo I find gives the best deals because once you go down to Key West you know its going to be more because its where all the tourist end up going. As a local Key Largo and Islandmorada is about as far as I go just because fishing and water sports is about all you are going to get on any of the Keys only Key West has a downtown district its still an island none the less expect more relaxing do nothing approach.

Honestly I like Orlando better then Miami, I go to Orlando all the time and its better priced. I would recommend even staying there because its almost a mirror image of Miami with theme parks and even the people are bit nicer.

If you want super deals head to the West Florida Naples has great deals some even offer stay 3 get one day free and the location is better situated then other destinations in Florida and at a $129.99 a night price.

What is the best area to stay in Key West?
Q. We are planning a trip to Key West this summer and I am at a complete loss as to what is the best area of town. Our interests are being close to the beach ( of course) plus being within walking distance of Duval St.
We are looking to soak up some of the local culture - but want to make sure the area we rent in is safe and close to the best local attractions. Any ideas?

A. I live about a 5 minute walk from Smather's Beach right now, and it is absolutely fine to live in that area. I would walk alone anywhere in Key West at night. Key West, though very full of tourists at this time of the year, is a safe place to live.

If you stay at any of the large chain hotels here you will be on the bus route to get downtown, and within reasonable walking distance of the beaches. Key West is only 4 miles long and 2 miles wide, so practically anywhere is within walking distance.

Many people like to stay downtown, close to Duval. If you choose to do that, it will be noisier, but it will be closer to the action. Somewhere in Old Town will be closer to most of the attractions. If I were you, I'd choose a hotel that fits your budget - Key West can be expensive - and then use public transportation, rent a bicycle here, or walk. For one day you could take a tour on the Old Town Trolley, and then you can get on and off all day from any of the 12 stops along the route - which will take you all over the island, including by each of the beaches and along Duval.

What are some good hotels in Key West?
Q. Never been to Key West and trying to book a descent room close to all the attractions.

A. I lived in Key West for over 8 years. The hotels that are right downtown are sometimes pricey, however, you will be right in the middle of everything. The Hyatt has a beautiful place, with the best Bloody Mary I have ever had! Also, the Ocean Key House has a perfect sunset view. On Duval Street there is a Holiday Inn La Concha and this puts you front and center for all of the Duval Street action. There are many hotels that are not downtown, but this requires you to have a car or rent a moped in order to get around. Good luck!
