What is the best area in Manhattan to live for a fashion designer?

Q. I'm looking for a nice 1 bedroom in Manhattan NY. I live in LA now and will be bi-coastal. I'm a young, pretty, SINGLE :), female, fashion designer. Maybe something near Bryant Park or Central Park, 5th Avenue, something near nice hotels and a buzzing nightlife. I'm looking to spend a little under 3,000 per month.... I would really appreciate some suggestions! :) THX!!

How much spending money should we take to New York City?
Q. My husband and I are coming to NYC from July 3 -10. We are not coming to shop, so how much money should we bring for the museums, tours, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks? Our hotel and flights are paid for so that doesn't need to be included. We also plan on going to a bar 2 nights while we are there.

Also, where is a grocery store near Penn Station on 7th Ave? And a good place to buy a bottle or two of wine?

A. Despite the fact that it's a holiday week, there are many free things to do in the summer that might help balance your budget. Proper preparation is key! There are lots of free museums, outdoor entertainment (movies in Bryant Park, concerts in Central Park), and more. You will also save big if you purchase tickets & passes ahead of time. Fore example, you can buy a New York Pass which allows you to go to the major landmarks and tours for a flat rate. As for snacks - they are not cheap and there aren't many lunch or dinner "specials" like those $5 steaks before 5pm that you'll typically find in many other touristy destinations.

You can find links to free things to do in NYC and purchase a NY pass or other discounted tickets for sightseeing tours and attractions on the NYC Tourist Center website. http://www.nyctouristcenter.com

What are good things to do in New York with only a day?
Q. I have one day in New York in early August for a meeting, and I have about 8 hours before the meeting to see the city. I'll be staying in a hotel about a block from Madison Square Garden, and I would rather not ride around in a Taxi if I can avoid it. Thanks!

A. You'll be a stone's throw away from the Empire State Building and a 10-15 minute walk to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park and the UN. If you jump on the subway or a bus you'll have plenty of time to head uptown to Central Park and Museum Mile or downtown to the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street/WTC (a.k.a. Ground Zero), etc..
