is the flamingo hotel in Las Vegas turning into a Mob museum?

Q. I heard a rumor that the Flamingo Hotel in Vegas is being turned into a Mob Museum and they are getting rid of the casino. I've checked online with no results about this rumor but I was curious to know, since I was actually married there about a year ago to my lovely wife and was maybe thinking about going back as a anniversary idea.

A. not true, there is a new mob museum but it's downtown.

Can someone please recommend cheap places to eat near The Flamingo Hotel, Las Vegas ?
Q. I am looking for economical places to lunch or dine within walking distance from the Flamingo Hotel. Suggestions ?

Any buffets recommendations near the area ?
I hear that there is a monorail stop at the back of the hotel . Are there any good restaurants within walking distance from a monorail stop ?

Thanks for your help.

Ezra

A. The cafe at Bill's which is right next to the Flamingo has a few cheaper options including an excellent turkey sandwich with fries.

Has anybody stayed in Las Vegas at the Flamingo hotel in a Go room?
Q. I have to stay at the Flamingo hotel for a wedding and am trying to decide if it's worth it for @ $54/night to upgrade to a Go Room. If anybody has stayed at either a regular or a Go room, I'd like to hear your opinion.

A. I have only stayed in the Flamingo's Deluxe rooms, but I have seen the Deluxe Go rooms on a tour of the property. I would not call it a suite but it's a very nice room with a lot of added touches. The bathroom is really nice and if you're into high tech then you'll love it.

On the Flamingo web site you can upgrade for $50.

If you're going on the weekend and want the nicer room book it now. If on the other hand you're arrival/stay will be Sunday through Thursday. You would have a great shot at an upgrade with the $20 trick. >At check in, have a $20 in your hand so that it's partially visible to the check in clerk, ask if she/he has anything a little nicer available. They are going to tell you no/I can't do that/it will cost you/ etc in which case you're out of luck unless you want to pony up the bucks, or they will say, let me take a look and see what we have, in that case you have an excellent chance. If you get the upgrade, when the clerk hands you the room keys, you say thank you very much and give him/her the $20 handshake. Don't be too obvious.

This is a common practice in Las Vegas, if they have a lot of spare rooms you have a good chance. If you're getting a really low rate for the room there is a very good chance the hotel has extra rooms. Make sure you book your room through the Flamingo and not a wholesaler. It would be a waste not to anyway >the Flamingo has a best rate guarantee, if you find a better rate for them at an online travel site they will beat that rate by 25% .
