Does anyone know of any somewhat nice hotels in NYC for around $100 a night?

Q. My friend and I are planning a summer trip to NYC and as students, we don't want to spend a lot of money on hotel costs. Our stay should be about a week. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

A. The Gershwin Hotel is supposed to be very clean. You have to share a bathroom in the cheaper rooms. It's in a very safe (expensive) residential area.

The Chelsea Lodge has a nice reputation. The cheaper rooms have private sinks and showers, but you have to share the toilets. Chelsea is a great neighborhood with interesting, inexpensive restaurants (less than ten minutes from Times Square by train)

The Gershwin Hotel-New York, What is the rate per night for a "Bunker" Dormitory style room?!?
Q. We're planning a trip for the Summer of 2016, I'd love to know if they have seasonal rates?!

A. Hotels do not post rates 4 years in advance, BUT, you may want to consider calling and making a reservation, if they'll take it this early, as soon as you can to get your specific dates. The Gershwin is outrageously popular and insanely hard to get a room in in the Summer (because their rates are so reasonable). When January 2016 rolls around, they should be able to tell you what the rate will be and you'll be able to cancel at no charge if it turns out it's too expensive for you.

What songs can i play in a piano bar?
Q. i've been hired in a 5 star hotel and i wanna be in the zone. i don't really know what oldies and rich people would want to hear. what do pianists usually play in places like these?

A. I don't know how you could go wrong with George Gershwin, Cole Porter, or Glenn Miller selections. But you might throw in some classic Beatles, Byrds, Elvis or something and see what kind of reaction you get.

Or better yet, ask a bartender who's been there awhile and ask him what goes over best. P.S. I'm from Indiana, so if you can play Hoagy Carmichael's Stardust or Heart & Soul that would be great!
