Best New York (Queens) hotels that are Bed Bugs FREE?
Q. Hi guys,

I understand NYC is pretty much infested with bed bugs and there are even lawsuits filed against hotels infested with those bugs.

I wouldn't if I could, but I HAVE TO travel to NY for a business and need a hotel in Queens that is bed bugs free!

I understand this kind of infestation can happen to any hotel out there, but still like to hear opinions of some of you out there. There must be hotels that are more aware of this issue and take appropriate preventative action such as using a bed bug cover onto their mattresses etc.

BTW, I will arrive in the LaGuardia airport and hotels near the airport, or anywhere in Queens for that matter would work.

Thanks a lot in advance!

A. This is a tough call and it would probably be easier to rule out the hotels which have ever been reported:

The Helmsley Park Lane Hotel New York - they once had a lawsuit some 2 years back for bedbugs
New York Inn, New York City, New York
Eastgate Tower Hotel
Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers
Carter Hotel New York City
La Quinta Inn Manhattan
Comfort Inn Manhattan
Radisson Lexington Hotel New York
Westin New York Times Square
Latham Hotel
Quality Hotel
Paramount
Belvedere Hotel
Milford Plaza Hotel
Edison Hotel
W New York Court
Flatotel
Warwick Hotel
Chelsea Lodge
Warwick Hotel
Park South

Certain NYC regions have also registered a number of reports:
Riverside Drive
Park Avenue

A good resource for these reports is: http://bedbugregistry.com

By the way the presence of bed bugs has got nothing to do with dirt, they spread easy and breed well even in clean hotels so don't be fooled to thinking that a posh hotel may not have cases of bed bugs.

Ideally, I haven't come across bedbug reports on Accommodations within LaGuardia and some are:

Less than $100:
-- Laguardia Airport Hotel New York City
-- Holiday Inn Laguardia Airport New York City

More than $100:
-- Holiday Inn Express Laguardia Airport...
-- Howard Johnson Hotel Laguardia Airport...
-- Fairfield Inn Laguardia Airport New...
-- Clarion Hotel La Guardia Airport New...
-- Lexington Marco Laguardia Hotel New...
-- Marriott Hotel Laguardia Airport New...
-- Hampton Inn Laguardia Airport New York...
-- Crowne Plaza Hotel Laguardia Airport...
-- Sheraton Hotel Laguardia East New York...

Now that you have an idea of where NOT TO GO, you can find a complete listing with all the hotel amenities, facilities, and even be able to compare rates at:

What is the easiest way to move from Burlington to Boston MA?

Q. I'm going to be visiting Boston for a week but the Hotel we're staying in is located in Burlington. Is renting a car a good option? (Taking in count I've never drove around Boston before) Are there public transportation options to be moving from one place to the other all week?
NOTE:Please if you give advice about bus or train options be as specific as you can, thanks.

A. From Burlington, you can travel by car to Boston. Public transportation is a good way to get around the city. Personally I like to park at the Boston Common Garage. It is underneath the Boston Common. It has access to many of the tourist spots, that you wish to see. You can walk across "The Common" to the State House, or to the Public Garden. In season you can ride the Swan Boats, in the Public Garden. You also have access to The Freedom Trail, from the Common. If you like to shop, The Boston Common is bounded on one side, by Tremount Street, and on an adjoining side by Boylston Street, which has shops, theaters, and restaurants.

What is a great weekend getaway city in the Northeast?
Q. Looking for a weekend getaway (leaving out of western massachusetts) for me and my girlfriend. Last year we went to Saratoga Springs, Ny and really enjoyed it. Anybody know of any similar cities with a good mix of outdoor and city activities to enjoy? Also, any good hotels to recommend in the area?

I'd really like to go to NY city, but hotels there look a little out of my price range. Anybody know any less expensive hotels in the city?

A. lake placid, ny in the aedirondacks---great mountain views right from town, you can tour the olympic sites and ride the luge and bobsled, lots of good hiking, very nice quaint town..similare to saratoga springs but a mountain town

burlington, vermont is a good choice too..similar to lake placid without the oympic sites, LP is more quaint i think

portland, maine--from western mass you can get there in about 3- 3 1/2 hours; awesome town (i know i live here)

or head north into montreal canada--it'll take you about 3 - 3 1/2 hours to get there but you;ll feel like you went to france--its amazing

--these choices are much more affordable then nyc or boston and offer something different

Whats the cheapest way of getting into Boston from Burlington?
Q. So tomorrow I leave for boston and we are staying at the Extended Stay Deluxe in Burlington over on Main St. Looking to see what would be the cheapest way/route of getting from the hotel to some mass transit or the cheapest way from the hotel to Boston. We DO have a car at our disposale. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

A. Traveling on the T(www.mbta.com) is your best way to go. Burlington has a local bus (781-270-1965) that connects at several points with bus route #350. The 350 is NOT an express route. It has full day and weekend service. The terminus is Alewife Station in Cambridge, from which you can take the Red Line and have connections to the entire bus and subway system.
The first link in the source list is an MBTA map of the Burlington area. The second is a schedule for the 350 bus route inbound to Cambridge. Scroll to the right side of the schedule page and you'll see the cost of the trip. If you'll be staying for a while, get a Charlie Card (the card is free; you add value to it in order to use it)
*Added after answerers 5 & 6-There is no commuter rail station in Burlington, although there are 2 in Woburn (next town over) on the Lowell Line. The terminus is North Station, which has connections to the Green and Orange subway lines. Considering the price of gas is approaching $4.00/gal., bus to Alewife and the Red Line is still the best way to go.

Hotels for an afterparty in Downtown Boston?

Q. Anyone know a hotel that would be ok with about 20 people in a room on a late Friday night. The music would not be loud and we'd pretty much be talking and drinking, nothing too wild. If you know hotels that are really strict or that would block a bunch of people from coming in at the same time, pleas list those too.

A. I'd try the Sheraton in Copley Square just because of the way it is laid out. There are multiple entrances and there's elevator access to the rooms from those entrances so no one will even notice a crowd of people coming in from the Prudential Center. :)

Where to stay and what to do in Boston?
Q. It's a major city so I know it's going to be expensive but where would a cheaper but still very convenient location be to stay in (if you have any actual hotel recommendations that would be greatly appreciated).
Also, what are some must see/do things in Boston.
We don't have a car so we will be relying on either public transport or walking (preferably walking, if that's a realistic option).
We will be there for about 5 days and we are both 22.

A. The hostel run by HI is wicked cheap. HI actually runs two in the city, but one is seasonal
http://www.bostonhostel.org/

Public transport (the T is cheap) But walking should be fine too, much of the city, especially the touristy areas are walkable. You will need to take the T sometimes, but there will be many places you can walk to as well

I recommend you come in the summer or at least late spring or earl fall. Never come in winter. The weather is nasty, and one winter storm could ruin you whole trip

suggestions of things to do in Boston
Museums, lots of Museums: The MFA (art) Isabella Stuart Gardner (art) ICA (art) The Aquarium, The Science Museum, Harvard and MIT museums, not to mention all the Historical sites; sites along the Freedom Trail, John Adams House

Check listings for concerts, plays and other events

Red Sox Game,or other sports event

Visit the Harbor Islands, Whale watch, Blue Hills State reservation

shopping, lots of shopping in Quincy Market, Newbury Street or Harvard Square in Cambridge, also visit the insanely overpriced Copley Place Mall

Duck tours

Go to the top of the Prudential Tower for a great view

Take a Boston Harbor Cruise. There are all sorts of cruises for different interests

You may also like to take a side trip to Salem, the touristy spots are right off the Commuter rail train station
check out the Peabody Essex Museum, all the witch stuff, the historic site run by the Park Service and lots of shopping and restaurants

What are some cheap places to go to in boston? Like tourist atractions.?
Q. I am visiting with my girlfriend and we got a hotel in the middle of boston and we are to save as much money as possible. So i was wounderkng if there are any cheap tourist atractions. A really good restaurant is also good. Thanks

A. Get a copy of Improper Bostonian at your hotel (It's Free), it will list everything that is happening in town, and when the free nights are at the museums. Also what bands are playing at the Hard Rock, the House of Blues, Club Passim, etc.

Follow the Freedom Trail. Some of the sites are free (Old North Church, Kings Chapel, Granary Burying Ground, etc.) It's a nice scenic walk. Go all the way over the bridge to Charlestown and climb the Bunker Hill Monument (free). Go to the USS Constitution (ship, free), and take the water shuttle back. $2.00 and 15 minutes, the cheapest harbor cruise there is. Fabulous views.

There's a free classical music concert tonight at the Hatch Shell on the Charles.

You can get half price tickets at the BosTix booth in Copley Square (GREAT place to sit for a while), but I think only the Comedy venues have shows now. (The Boston Comedy Festival is this week)http://www.bostix.org/booth_locations.asp

Friday in Copley Square there's a Farmer's Market. Get stuff for a picnic and go over to the Public Garden and watch the Swan Boats. If you are into poetry, download a few and read them to her. I guarantee that's a romantic experience.

I like French restaurants. Le Petit Bistro Robert in Kenmore is nice and not too pricey.
Or wander around the North End and check menus until you find one that matches your wallet.

Q. We stayed at the Ramada in Birmingham, and Billy Steve put a towel in the car by accident. We are in Mobile now, so it might be easier to mail it back if you want it.

Q. Me and my friend are planning to make a trip to Birmingham soon, we are 18 and need a place to stay while we are there, how old do you have to be to rent a hotel/motel room? I need to know soon.

A. ugh, why don't you just call a hotel and ask them? it would have taken you less time to do that than it would have to post this question

Reasonably cheap but nice hotels in Birmingham?
Q. I am staying in Birmingham for one night later this month. I'd like to stay in a nice hotel but at a reasonable price, can anyone recommend one? Or any sites to use?

the canal side, the brindley place and the hagley road ones are all good

What is the best place to visit in the Philippines?

Q. If someone can only visit one place in the Philippines because they can only stay there for a few days, which place or tourist spot would you recommend and why?

A. Check out San Agustin Church the oldest building still standing in the country as well. It has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site at Intramuros in Manila the capital of The Philippines ....

Across the Pasig River from Intramuros is the Binondo area, home of Chinatown. The district is filled with all things Chinese from Peking duck and Buddhist temples to gold watches, snake soup, and wonder herbs. The high chords of Chinese songs and the permeating smell of incense complete the uniquely Chinese ambiance. It is said that this quaint district was already a hub of Chinese commerce even before the Spaniards came in 1571.

In particular, Ongpin offers a lot of variety: restaurants, pet shops, bakeries, grocery stores, jewelers, traditional medicine shops, acupuncture clinics, kung-fu schools, and mahjong parlors. Ongpin leads to Plaza Santa Cruz, which is where Rizal Avenue curves to meet the MacArthur Bridge. Escolta, now a shadow of its former self, leads off from here. The plaza is dominated by Santa Cruz Church.

Shopping in Manila is a way of life. Almost everywhere you go are stores, shops, boutiques from the small corner store to the giant malls that you can find almost everywhere you go in Metro Manila.

South of Manila is Makati City, considered as the financial capital of the country. Along Ayala Avenue rise modern skyscrapers, which are home to multinational companies, foreign embassies and local banks. The trendiest leisure spots - hotels, restaurants, bars, music lounges, fashion boutiques and department stores - converge around the sleek Ayala Center. Across EDSA is the posh subdivision of Forbes Park, home of the country's rich and famous. One area that now competes with Makati in terms of its modern architectural landscape is the Ortigas Center between Mandaluyong City and Pasig City. Home to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), it is also the site of three of the country's richest shopping malls - SM Megamall, Robinson's Galleria, and Shangri-la EDSA Plaza. Also within Ortigas is the striking leisure enclave, Saint Francis Square, with its fine restaurants and fashionable music lounges.

The northern part of Metro Manila takes pride in maintaining two animal sanctuaries, Parks and Wildlife Nature Center and the Malabon Zoo.

Top 5 beaches which is near to Manila are Matabungkay Beach, Calatagan Beaches, Bauan Beaches, San Juan Beaches, Kabayan Beach in Batangas is just 2 to 3 hours from Manila.

While Boracay is widely known as one of the finest swimming destinations in the world, Boracay is blessed with unsullied fine talcum powder-sand beaches. Its tranquil crystal clear waters are perfect for swimming, sailing, fishing and sunbathing. Boracay also boasts of sapphire seas and spectacular sunsets. Countless hidden coves dot the island and tall coconut trees line up along the beaches. Boracay island lies at the northwest tip of Panay, in the west Visayas region, off the Sibuyan Sea.

Need to find hotel in Manila that is close to bus station.?
Q. We have friends from Baguio City traveling by bus to Manila to meet us. We need information of area that bus stations might be located and possible hotels that would be close to bus stations.

A. If they're coming from Baguio then they'll probably take Victory-Pasay. In that case stay in Heritage which is about a kilometer or two from there. There are actually lots of other hotels in that area, but I think Heritage is closest among the nice ones.

What is a quality web site design company in Rhode Island?

Q. I need to create a website for my hotel and restaurant, but I don''t want to use a big agency. I'm located in Newport, Rhode Island, and am looking for a local company to help me create a site. They would probably also need to help me with internet marketing -- stuff I know nothing about.

A. I'm a retailer in Providence and I've worked with a small company called Pirata Media in Bristol, RI. They gave me a lot of time and attention, and didn't use any smoke and mirrors, like some big web companies do.

They know what they're talking about too! They helped me with some video production I needed, as well as some pay-per-click marketing and search engine optimization (which I'll admit I knew nothing about either).

Overall, a great company with professional, high quality work for an extremely reasonable price. Also friendly, and easy to work with. I highly recommend them.

This is their site: http://www.piratamedia.com

Good luck!

What happend in England a couple days ago?

We have never had a problem travelling in India including Delhi take the obvious precautions of course do not flash your money about in public. You will love India it is a great country. Day Hotel in London with early check in (10 o' clock)?
Q. I need to be in London for a day, for an interview which is in the afternoon. I need a day hotel with early check in, say 10 o' clock, to relax a bit before the interview, have a quick shower and feel frish and less anxious.
Any Recommendations?

Thanks :)

A. There are no such 'day hotels' in London.
Though Hoxton Hotels did recently start an offer to its returning customers (basically to anyone, just not advertised anyone) to hire rooms out for5 or 6 hours in the morning but you have to call them up to ask them about the offer! Don't know if they are still doing it. Do try.
http://www.hoxtonhotels.com/

But for every other hotels, if you pay an 'early check in' fee, usually £10, you can check in at 11 usually. Haven't heard of one that does 10 am. I recommend this website in finding a hotel.

Does anyone know of any good, affordable resorts/hotels within Metro Manila?

Q. There'll be roughly 5-7 of us, and we're planning to stay in only one room.
Can anyone suggest any private pools/hotels in Metro Manila?
We're looking for something similar to Bianca's Garden Hotel but I heard it closed down about a year ago.

It would be nice if you could give the link of your suggested places as well.
Thanks! :)

A. "When my Filipino wife and I arrive in Manila, it is always after eleven at night so we always get a room until the next day to go to the province."
"Many time we will come into the city and stay for several days to shop.!"
"My favorite location is in and around Manila Bay where there are good hotels, restaurants, art/antique districts, malls, street shopping, etc."
"We have stayed at Palm Plaza on Adriatico and Pedro Gil." "We have also stayed at Midtown Manila in the same area.' "Also at City Gardens and Royal Palms as well as several others."
"These were all good decent, safe places right in the heart of things and we have always enjoyed our stay."
"The U.S. Embassy is also just across Roxas Blvd. on Manila Bay very close by!"
"The average cost for a nice room with double beds and air conditioned, was around $40.00 U.S./per night!"
"There are numerous street vendors for food otherwise, etc.and thre are nice food courts and shopping in Robinsons Mall, which is located at Adriatico and Pedro Gil, just across the street from Palm Plaza hotel (which has a swimming pool)!
"Try Zamboanga Restaurant also across the street from the mall on Adriatico and just behind Palm Plaza hotel."
More expensive ($100.00 a night hotels such as Manila Diamond, are available right on Roxas Blvd. and they are exceptionally nice and will meet any one's expectations." "We have also stayed there to as they have an in house casino!"
"One word of good advice..; "NEVER CHANGE YOUR MONEY WITH ANYONE OUT ON THE STREET!!" "You Will Get Ripped Off..; "EVERY SINGLE TIME!"
"Always use a licensed money changer that are available everywhere there but they have their changing operations "INSIDE" a licensed building for this purpose." 'It is not only safer but they give the best going rate.!"
"Check several of these agency's though because some have better rates than others until you find your best rate!"
"You can also change your dollars into pesos at your hotels but they do so at a lesser exchange rate than the licensed exchange businesses along the streets.!"
"Beware of the clubs and pay for your drinks each and every time that you order or you may find a larger tab than expected!"
"Be respectful an definitely obey their laws!" "I assure you that their jails will be your very worst nightmare if you happen to be a bad boy and get arrested!" "It takes a lot to upset them but if you do ..You will learn what "Bad" really means..; And how "Nightmare" is truly defined!" "They will "HURT YOU!"

Has the all inclusive drinks system changed at the Royal Garden Hotel Mamaris this year/recently?
Q. From reading reviews on trip advisor, I have noticed alot of people complaining about the queuing system, which involves queuing twice. Is this still in place?

A. Yes it is
its really not worth you effort

What hotels in pattaya do not question if you bring women?
Q. I have heard some hotels in Pattaya beach make you pay extra if you bring women or guest. I am looking to enjoy myself after a year in Iraq, so I am looking for good reasonable hotels where I can bring two women, the same time, day or night without problems.

A. Most of the hotels in Pattaya that are not expensive usually will allow you to bring in a guest without a charge. Many hotels that are under 1000 baht will still have air conditioning and private bathrooms.

If you intend to stay in more luxury accommodation they usually ask you to pay. They figure you can afford it and besides they don't want to alarm any of the other guests by your continually bringing "guests" back to the hotel.

Check one place out for a couple nights and if it works out for you stay longer. If not move on, lots and lots of places in Pattaya to stay at. Choose a hotel between Central Pattaya and Royal Garden Mall.

By the way, if the front desk asks for identification of your friend it is for YOUR protection! "Guests" have been known to run off with money, watches, passports, etc. of the guy or gal who brought the guest in. Checking ID's is okay!

Happy hunting.

Wondering if hotel prices in Vegas will go down the sooner it gets to July?
Q. will hotel prices go down the sooner it gets to July for Vegas?

A. Prices drop in July and August because the heat is so high. April, May and June are busy months as well as September and October as the weather is near perfect at those times. They might come down this year it is hard to tell but if things keep up they will be as low as they are right now.

What would you pay on average for a hotel room? How expensive is too expensive?
Q. I'm doing a report for a Guest Management Service class on "How Expensive is too Expensive?" in regards to hotel prices. What you pay on average for a hotel room? And what do you think certain age groups pay for hotels? Who's more attracted to the expensive hotels and the cheap or medium priced hotels?

A. On average, I pay between $80-$100 for a moderate hotel room that offers free internet and breakfast. I will pay up to $250 for a hotel room in a prime location (such as major cities or on the beach). The time of year also effects the cost of a room. A hotel in Washington, D.C. can be $75.00 a night in March but $375 in October or April. I think younger hotel guests are more interested in finding the cheapest price. Older guests are willing (and able) to pay higher prices for a prime location in high season that offers amenities such as restaurants, spa services, gym, pool, etc. Families want a moderate price for a clean, safe hotel.

Does anyone know of any really, really great deals for a trip to the Black Hills?

Q. Hi,
A friend and I are considering taking a trip to the Black Hills this fall. We don't need any airline tickets, because we live close enough to drive.

I just wonder if anyone knows of any great packages or wonderful hotel deals.

If we go, it will be between the last couple of days in September through the first couple weeks in October. Not sure if we will go for that whole time, but looking at all possibilities.

Anything you can point me to in regards to this are would be great. We would also like to spend some time in Hot Springs, South Dakota.

Thank you!

A. I'm unsure of deals, but the Quality Inn in Spearfish is neat.
It's location is handy to Black Hills National Forest, Spearfish Canyon, and the High Plains Western Heritage Center.
And Spearfish is real close to historic Deadwood.

I can only suggest you do the research on each hotel in the area. All the national chains have websites with all information online (in addition to reservations).
Phone numbers are also supplied; phone or fax the hotels of interest to you and ask for a deal.
There is no harm in doing that.

http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=Hotels%2C+Spearfish%2C+SD&fr=yfp-t-501&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8

This is the link to Hot Spring's Chamber of Commerce website, you will find much to interest you as a visitor:
http://www.hotsprings-sd.com/

I adore South Dakota, the Badlands are also awesome to visit. Have a great time.

How can I get a REALLY good deal to go to Vegas on New Year's?
Q. I know all the casinos and hotels have their deals. But I'm looking for the good stuff - packages which include great hotel rates, maybe even some VIP stuff for the clubs.

A. You won't find anything cheap, that's for sure. That is the biggest night of the year here. You will have to go to each hotel website to see what they are offering for that night. Most are probably sold out by now. People usually book NYE a year in advance.

What is the CHEAPEST place you have ever been able to find airling tickets?
Q. I am trying to find REALLY CHEAP air tickets and places to stay for the first week of June in Los Angeles. I have some friends that need to get there for a very important unexpected meeting and we need to find the very cheapest way to go about it, because they don't have much time to prepare for it.

Any help you could give would be awesome. I need to know websites to look at, or places to call that have had the BEST deals. I have already looked at all the obvious ones like Orbitz and Travelocity -- what are some others that may not be so well known, but have great rates? Also, if you know a particular airline besides Southwest (which I have already checked also) Please let me know. Also if you know of any really good hotel deals.

Please help, we need to get them there and our budget is VERY limited!

Thank you for any help.

A. I use hotels.com to find places to stay, and StaTravel.com (but make sure you double check the description, they mix Hostels in with Hotels).

I know they're well known, but I have found Expedia to be quite good for finding cheap flight prices.

Priceline, Expedia, and Kayak has this type of setup, how do I do it with fewer hotels?

A. You must enter into an agreement with the hotels you wish to include onto your site.

when is the best time to make flight and hotel reservations for nov? what's the best site offering lowestrates?

Q. i'm planning to take a trip from LA to Sanfo first week of September. Im wondering if there is a perfect time to purchase flight tickets and make hotel reservations. Any reccomended site offering low rates?

A. The first week of September is over. But probably the best time to book for the first week of November is about now.

How old do you have to be to make hotel reservations?
Q. How old do you have to be to be able to make hotel reservations in OREGON.

A. I don't believe you have to be a certain age to call and make reservations - you do need a valid credit card number though - you may have trouble actually checking in to the room if they ask for id.

Can you cancel a hotel reservation through the hotel if you booked via a travel site?
Q. I recently booked a trip to New York to visit family for New Years. I included a hotel stay in my package. I am now planning on staying with a family friend therefore no longer need the hotel reservation. I looked at the site I booked with and the only way to do so is if you cancel the whole package which I don't want to do. Also, it says the hotel reservation is nonrefundable.

A. If you booked through almost any travel website except the hotels website you are out of luck. Expedia, Priceline, orbit, etc. all of the travel websites are like a travel agent. You pay them, they pay the hotel. You could try to call them but I'm sure they will tell you no based on the fact it is non-refundable. When you book through any of these companies you will get a standard room type which means anything that is leftover. No preference on smoking or non or how many beds. Always try to stay away from these methods of booking rooms because you may get a better rate but you might not get what you expected.

A. Suggest you book only for the ist night online.

What's the best area to book hotel with?
Q. I am taking 2 teenagers to visit DC in late June. What's the best area to book hotel with? We are planning to visit the Mall and museums. Is it better to stay downtown or outskirt and commute in via public transportation?
We plan to stay in the area for 3 full days.
We are going to drive to the area.

A. First, the areas to AVOID... anything on New York Avenue NE, anything in the "Gateway" neighborhood, and anything in/near Kenilworth Avenue. This is kind of a rough neighborhood and there is no public transportation. You'll be very sad!

I'd personally recommend the Days Inn, in the 4400 block of Connecticut Avenue NW. This is my favorite "lesser known" budget hotel--- it's still kind of pricey, as is everything in DC, but currently rooms are going for $129/night which is not bad. The neighborhood is excellent, very very safe, a bit on the quiet side but plenty of restaurants and you have the Metro rail station about 2 blocks away. And they have free parking. You will enjoy your stay there.

If you can't get a room there, try any of the hotels in Arlington, VA; make sure you check to see how far from the subway you will be, or if the hotel has a free shuttle to the train station (bus transit can be tiring with kids). Arlington is quite large! But it's a very safe area and close enough in that you won't spend your whole trip on the train! Watch your budget, too, espeically if you decide to look in Alexandria, VA as some of the hotels (especially in Crystal City) can be more expensive than those right in the city!

For a little closer in, try any of the hotels in the 1300-1700 block of New Hampshire Avenue NW (Particularly the Governor's House) as this is also a very safe neighborhood and you can walk to some of the attractions.

Do I need to book a hotel before going to Sri Lanka for NYE?
Q. I am planning to travel around Sri Lanka during the 2013/2014 new years period and I am unsure on whether I will need to book hotel rooms or not. I plan to travel to different areas of the country and my plans and destinations are likely to change while I am there. I would rather book hotels during the trip as a when and need them. Will this be possible? Any advice?

A. Yeah you have to,because during new years period the hotels might be already booked because of lack tourists and holiday comers .. so it's better to book a hotel before you visit to SL...! After arriving to Sri Lanka you can decide and choose the places where you want to go...! (Famous places - Sigirya, Trincomalee Harbour, Anuradapuraya, Polonnaruwa, Nuwara Eliya)........Hope It Helped...! :)

Do you agree that one of Australia's best music talents is the Bee Gees?

Q.

A. Yep! Just chatting about this earlier tonight!
Sorry to see you've had so much misinformation in the answers. The Bee Gees were indeed one of Australia's most successful music talents - although the older brothers were born on the Isle of Man, and Andy in Manchester, they emigrated to Australia, and went to school in Redcliffe, Queensland. They played their first gigs around Brisbane and Redcliffe, (beginning at The Palace Hotel in Redcliffe, where they performed for a free coke each!), so I certainly think we can validly claim them as our boys! And they did have success here before returning to England, contrary to what an earlier respondent suggested - they performed many gigs in and around Queensland resorts, and had a record deal in 1963 (before returning to the UK in 1966). Their music was enormously popular and loads of fun!

Best places to visit in Manchester,UK?
Q. Hi,

Could you all suggest the best places to see around in Manchester, UK.
Thanks a lot. I will def go to Science Museum. If anything else which is interesting do let me know. Cheers.

A. Manchester, as a city authority, lies at the heart of a conurbation of some 2.6 million, living in 10 local authority areas. This is Greater Manchester. If you look at a map, you will see the city is a strange shape. Part of what we know as the city centre is in fact part of the City of Salford, which can be accessed just metres over the river from say Deansgate, a major shopping street in town.

I can recommend the wikitravel Manchester site which is full of good insider info!

I would try to see The Museum of Science and Industry, as already mentioned and, when there, have a look around the Spinningfields district, to the side of The Opera House and down to the river, where you can also see the People's History Museum. In Spinningfields, by the Opera House,on the grass, you can hire a deckchair and watch sports/films/the Royal Wedding on 29/04, on the outdoor screen. To the other side of MSI, have a look at the Castlefield district; the country's first Urban Heritage Park.

The City Art Gallery and the Whitworth Gallery are both worth a look. The Whitworth is down Oxford Road. On the way you could stop in an have a look at the revamped Manchester Museum. Even further down the road you can see The Gallery of English Costume in Rusholme AND see the famous "Curry Mile" on the way.

Back in town you might want to have a quick look at "China Town" and the nearby "Gay Village" around Canal Street. There anyone is welcome to sit out and eat or drink, at one of the many places along the now tree lined, car free road next to the water.

There are great theatres in town. Even if you do not have time to catch a show at say The Opera House or Palace, have a look at the Royal Exchange Theatre, on St Ann's Square. This is a futuristic theatre in the round, built in what was the old Cotton Exchange building. It is well worth a look inside! Further down the road, by Victoria, is The MEN Arena; the largest in Europe where you can catch all the usual big names on tour. The Bridgewater Concert Hall , behind the Midland Hotel, is worth a look too. It is home to the Halle Orchestra

You could catch a tram, in the Eccles direction, and go to Salford Quays to see The Lowry Centre which is home to the works of Lowry and to three theatre spaces. Either get off at Salford Quays stop and walk along the water side, Harbour City stop, or the new MediaCityUK stop which is outside the new BBC studios complex there, which is soon to be home to five BBC depts. and to such programmes as BBC Breakfast Time and Blue Peter. Over the bridge, from The Lowry, you can visit The Imperial War Museum, North which is designed by Daniel Libeskind who designed the Jewish Museum in Berlin.

If you like shopping, there is a good choice in the city centre with more quirky stuff to be found in the Northern Quarter, which is good for cafes and bars too. There is a nice arts and crafts centre, hiden away near High Street, which is worth a look too. There is an outlet mall at The Lowry or you can catch the Altrincham line tram to Stretford, and get the link bus out to The Trafford Centre, which is great on a rainy day. It is one of the biggest and grandest shopping centres in Europe with lots of places to eat and drink too.

Fans of football might want to see Old Trafford which is not too far from The Imperial War Museum, North. You can see it over the water from The Lowry. City's ground is out at Eastlands.
Sure there is more so, as I said, look at the wikitravel site. Enjoy the place. I have also lived in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh, but only in Manchester do the locals seem to have a real pride in the place. We live here by choice and love it warts and all!

Manchester is very central, so can also be used as a base to visit places like our nearby neighbour Liverpool, North Wales/Chester, The Peak District, The Lake District, Blackpool and The Fylde Coast, Leeds/Bradford, Bronte Country and the rest of Yorkshire etc. The airport is also the most important, outside London and the SE, and provides a good alternative gateway to the UK; especially for Northern England, North Wales and Scotland.

train ans hotels near manchester academy 3?
Q. i am going to see a band (dimmu borgir) in november and the only way i can see them is by going by train and staying the night. the information ive gathered up by looking where the academy 3 is, ive found out its on the manchester uni campus and the nerest train station is oxford road station. i was just wondering if this was correct and how far is the train station from the academy (i would like some direction please). and i was wondering if there was any nice, but cheap hotels in manchester that is near the academy? if so i would like direction for that too.
please help me, i dont know manchester verywell and i need to sort it all out before its too late

A. It's not far from Oxford Road train station at all. You could walk it in about 10 minutes or hop on one of the trillions of buses that run up and down Oxford Road, 24 hours a day.

You really can't go wrong. They're both on Oxford Road. It's literally just a case of walking out of the station, turning right and following the road you're on until you get there. All three Manchester Academies are in the same building, I believe. It's a big, beige coloured building with loads of cash points outside. At that time of night there will be tons of students milling around, people handing out flyers, etc, so quite impossible to miss.

There's a Holiday Inn Express and The Palace Hotel just next to Oxford Road station. Those would be your most convenient options. There's also an Ibis Hotel on Charles Street which runs onto Oxford Road. Any hotel in the city centre would do though. Both the train station and the venue are within easy reach on foot, by public transport or in a taxi.

Can anyone help me with travel to Manchester Academy 2?

Q. I'm going to a gig there soon, and I know to get off at oxford rd station. Can anyone suggest a taxi firm and prices?

A. come out of the station and walk down the stairs and not the slope. opposite you will see the palace hotel and there is a very big bus stop right outside. hop on the 143 or 142 (Blue Magic Buses) - the fare on here is only one pound. Get ready to get off once you have passed the aquatics centre - the first stop after the aquatics centre is the manchester museum, the next stop is the venue.
you could get a taxi but you would be hard pressed to actually get a cab to wait for you as there is no stopping on that section of oxford road, if they pull in and wait for you you will pay a premium and if you call when you are in town and its a thu/fri/sat/sun night you may have a bit of a wait. getting a black cab is another option, but the fastest way to get there is the bus - oxford road is the busiest bus route in europe and mostly the bus lanes move 3 times faster than the other traffic.

What are some good places to visit in England that are historic-y and medieval and awesome?
Q.

A. England has lots of history. Where will you be staying, its still quite a big country.

London is an obvious example, it has many historical building, The Tower of London for example.

Bath has its Roman Baths, and there is Stonehenge just down the road.

Cornwall has some ruins and lots of history relating to King Arthur and his Knights.

Leeds Castle in Kent dates back to 1190

Hampton Court Palace is always on the tourists list.

It really depends on where in England your hotel is, as Im from the south, lots of places Ive been are in the south. Pointless if you staying in Manchester or further north, as you'll spend all your time on a train.

How to travel around in London?
Q. I plan to travel alone.

Travel for 7-9 days probably.

What are the public transports available? Are they convenient? Is it advisable to buy a travel card etc? I need more details for this.

Besides, what are some good local food?

Where to shop? Any factory outlets around?

What are the must-go places? except Big Ben?

If I have time, how can I travel to Liverpool, Manchester etc?

How much would I need for a week?

Do you know any hotels offer clean rooms with low prices?

Thanks :)

A. There are so many ways to travel around London. The Tube is great, as are the buses and walking isn't too bad, unless you have to go really far. There are also lots of taxi cabs around - just be careful though, as they can fleece you out of a lot of money. A travel card? I'd say maybe not if you are only going for about a week. There are lots and lots of shops in London. There is Covent Garden, where there are lots of markets and "different" shops where you can pick up a bargain!
There are many attractions in London - The London Eye, Madame Tussauds, The Tower of London, Buckingham Palace (the changing of the guard is good to go and watch) and there are also lots of west end shows to see in the West End of London. To get to Liverpool and Manchester, you can go on the bus or the train, which ever is more convenient. I'm not to sure how much you would need for a week, but if you have a bank card, there are lots of ATM's around London as well as a lot of banks.
There are so many places for food in London, it is untrue - pick a style, and eat!
If you want somewhere cheap to stay, try a hostel - there are a lot of them XD

Q. I've heard a few people say they stay at the Ritz-Carlton downtown near water tower as well as the Peninsula and the Omni. I just asked someone a few weeks ago and they also told me the Marriott downtown would also be another possibility. Do any of you know where they may stay at?

A. Typically it's the Ritz. Here's a trick. Call reservations, and ask for the teams group rate. If there's a group rate, it's usually on a rooming list, so they can't book it. But they'll tell you it's a rooming list. That means the coach has to book it. That means it's the team, and not just a bunch of fanboys.

If you do meet them, be respectful. Don't walk up to their dinner table and ask for an autograph, unfortunately, if they complain, the hotel will remove you.

Questions about Omni Hotel Chicago?
Q. Hi there I plan to be going to Omni Hotel Chicago for my Honeymoon I have a few questions that maybe some of you can help answer.

1. Is there any other location to park besides the $50 valet?
2. Is there any discounts out there for this hotel?
3. Is this hotel as nice as people say it is?
4. If there is a better hotel for the same or less money what is it?

We love to shop and dine so we thought this would be a great place to spend 5-6 nights.

Thanks!

A. 1. Is there any other location to park besides the $50 valet? Right downtown there are not a lot of places that you can park for cheap. If you are willing to leave your car a few miles north you can park for free on the streets and then take the train downtown. If you are planning to stay downtown most of the time you probably won't need your car anyway.

2. Is there any discounts out there for this hotel? Not sure

3. Is this hotel as nice as people say it is? Yes - it is a nice hotel but there are a lot of really nice hotels in downtown Chicago. You should look around a bit b/c with the bad economy I have seen some really great deals recently. Look at the Hard Rock Hotel - I recently saw a deal for $99/night.

4. If there is a better hotel for the same or less money what is it? See above. Try checking out www.bing.com and click on their travel link They have great tools to help find you the lowest prices.

What is the music being played at MGM Studios Tower of Terror?
Q. While in line at MGM Studios Tower of Terror (Orlando), there's some interesting music being played. You can hear iit easiest while in line inside the "hotel". It's kind of a jazzy / bluesy sound, but I have no idea who it is. It might even be specially produced for the ride. I've rented the movie"Tower of Terror" but it doesn't appear in the movie soundtrack. I'd like to know where (or how) to get this music.

A. Here's the track listing, from http://www.disneymusicloops.com/ (links on the site to purchase the all the music, if available):

Where can we stay in Boston and get to Fenway Park easily?
Q. My family of 4 is driving to Boston for a Thursday night Red Sox game. We'd like to spend the night and visit Boston the next day. Hotels near Fenway Park are all booked (next week) and we can't afford more than $200 for a night in a hotel. Any suggestions on where to stay so we don't have to drive in Boston once we get there?
We'll be driving from Maine.

A. The MBTA (Aka. The T) has a stop on the Green Line called KENMORE which is Kenmore Square and adjacent to Fenway Park. So you want to find a hotel nearby a "T" station. I've no idea where you're coming from, and there are plenty of hotels that would meet your criteria, so what I'd do is check out http://www.mbta.com for the most convenient end point, then start looking for hotels in that area. For example, using the search engine of your choice, search for '<station name> MBTA STATION HOTEL' and then check the results and contact those that appeal to you. Remember that lines connect, so the hotel does not need to be along the Green Line.

Added 5/12 1257EDT - I believe the hotel to which Hank refers to is the Hotel Indigo, which is located on Grove St. in Newton (Exit 22 off I-95) just between I-95 and the Riverside Green Line Terminal. The entrance to the terminal is the next driveway on left after the hotel. Easily walkable.
http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/in/1/en/hotel/bosnt
Remember, you want to ride to the KENMORE stop!

The last car back to Riverside leaves Government Center at 12:45AM and takes (according to the "T") 11 minutes to get to KENMORE on it's way, so if you use this method, plan accordingly.

What are the best places to find a hotel in London?

Q. Hi there. I'm an American citizen currently living in New York. I'll be traveling to London for the first time next month. I'll be in Londontown for the entire last week of March.

I'm in the process of trying to find lodging for my trip. So far, I've concentrated my search in places like Wembley Park, Hyde Park, Docklands, and Earl's Court. I've discovered that almost all of the hotels in London are considerably expensive.

Just to narrow things down, I have one question-

What are the best areas to find a hotel in London?

Other than the main tourist sights, I'm not too familiar with London. So I don't know any of the not-so-good spots in the city.

So I was hoping if any Brits here could advise me on where I should stay during my trip to Londontown.

And if anyone has any hotel recommendations, please let me know as well.

A. you can try this site for some excellent deals in London http://www.yourholidaydeal.com,flick thru and there are pages relating to short breaks ,i am sure you will be able to find some decent hotel prices.
Stayed at the Rubens at the palace last year, excellent quality and serviced, highly recommended.

is the rathbone hotel good or bad??
Q. i searching for hotels to stay at in london...it's just me so i just want something clean and in a nice location...moderate priced..etc.. i wanted to stay in soho, so i was just wondering if anyone had been at this hotel before..? any suggestions/recommendations?? its much appreciated! thanks

A. Rathbone is ok, though it's been a while since I stayed there. Unfortunately, there's no such thing as a "moderately priced" hotel in London. For value, you might check Rubens at the Palace -- it's a quality, centrally located hotel that sometimes offers discounts --- or Dorset House (high quality but more affordable than most upscales). Sometimes there are bargains at The Langham, which has unbeatable location. The myHotel's are also worth the price, though they're trendy...

Good luck!

What are the closest hotels near New York New York Hotel in Las Vegas?

Q. Trying to find websites or whatever to tell me what are the closest hotels near the New York Hotel in Las Vegas.

A. Here is a link to an interactive map of the las vegas strip http://www.visitlasvegas.com/vegas/stay/planning-information/maps/?map=5 If it is not on South Strip, click on "select another map" and click on South Strip. The hotels surrounding Ny Ny are MGM Grand, Tropicana, Excalibur (connected to Luxor and Mandalay Bay) and Monte Carlo. Of those, Tropicana is the worst, Mandalay Bay is the best. Excalibur and Monte Carlo are the most affordable, and Luxor and MGM Grand have the best party atmospheres. Mandalay Bay has the best pool, with MGM Grand coming in 2nd, followed by Tropicana.

Distance from New York New York Hotel in Las Vegas to Las Vegas Convention Center?
Q. We are trying to find out the distance from the New York New York Hotel (near the Airport) to Las Vegas Convention Center purposely to attend an event. How many minutes by taxi please?

A. You can use this website to estimate taxi fare http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main.php?city=LV and it says that the distance from Ny NY Hotel to the Las Vegas Convention Center is 4.1 miles and will take 7 minutes. The total cost would be $17.26 including 15% tip.

An alternative would be to take the monorail. From New York New York, walk across the street to MGM Grand and follow the signs inside to the monorail station. Buy tickets at the kiosk ($5 one way or $12 for a one-day pass to get you there and back) and hop on the monorail. It stops at Bally's, Flamingo, Harrah's and then the Las Vegas Convention Center and it will take you a total of maybe 5 minutes to get there, it's really fast. http://lvmonorail.com/

Is New York, New York Hotel in Las Vegas a good spot for young people?
Q. I'm going to Las Vegas for the first time this summer with a friend and we're 21 and 22 so I'm wondering if the New York, New York Hotel is a place where the party is at.

I know from seeing it on the real world and every where else that the Palms is where it's poppin', but has anyone stayed in NY, NY Hotel before and will I have a good time there? Do alot of people our age stay there?

Thanks for ur help!

A. Here is the average daily rate in 2009 for the MGM hotels.
Circus Circus=$44
Excalibur=$54
Luxor=$72
Monte Carlo=$76
New York=$90
MGM Grand Las Vegas=$106
The Mirage=$118
Mandalay Bay=$142
Bellagio=$192

==================
NYNY is about in the middle price. It has the advantage over the Palms that you can walk to dozens of clubs, bars and restaurants . Although it is not marketed primarily to young people, I think you would be very happy there.

What should I do next weekend in NYC?

Q. I don't want to do TOURIST things. I want to go somewhere cool like the Knitting Factory or a super cool bar that plays Punk Rock music or a club w/ many rooms/atmospheres w/ LOUD booming Electric SOUNDS. Something in the village would be cool, but not a gay bar. I want to stay at a hotel in NYC for the weekend and go to bars, clubs, lounges, maybe a museum and some Central Park events if there is something cool going on. Anyone have any good ideas. New Yorkers, please help. I know you locals know of lots of good things to do. I'm not a tourist. I have an old TIME OUT NYC, but it's not helping. I live just across the water, but I want this trip to be special since it's my BF's birthday. Also any decent and affordable ($160 or less) hotel rooms would be appreciated even if it's in Brooklyn.

A. well to be honest you picked a bad weekend to come to NYC, not a lot of cool events happening...i know because i'll be here too (i'll be in the village cocktails, dinner, and then to the comedy cellar)and i've done some research. your best bet for live music would be down in the east village or soho. lots of bars with live music.
if you want contact me and i'll give you my access code to TONY.(time out ny) so you can check it out on line ur self.
when it comes to hotels you get what you pay for.
i'll be staying downtown for $190 a nite.
you can get a cheeper rate if you shop around
try www.hotels.com you can get good rates and the discriptions are accurate.

good luck

I need to find a restaurant near the majestic theater in NYC for my parents. I want to get them a gidtcard?
Q. For Christmas i got my parents two tickets to Phantom of the Opera in NYC at the Majestic Theater. I am looking for a nice restaurant they can go to that is near the theater. I also want to get them a giftcard to the restaurant. Any suggestions?

A. I work right by there and there are plenty of restaurants in the theater district.

*Carmine's-famous Italian restaurant known for their family-style meals
*John's Pizzeria--one of the famous pizzerias in NY that serves not only pizza, but other Italian favorites as well. This is located in an old church and is very pretty inside.
*Pongsri Thai Restaurant
*Da Rosina--Italian with a prixe fixe theater menu that lets you choose from everything.
*Bond 45-a few blocks away with an extensive menu
*Blue Fin-right in the W Hotel, great seafood and sushi and a nice treat for dinner.
*The View restaurant in the Marriott Marquis--dine on top of the world at this restaurant that gives you a 360 degree view of NYC.

Also check out 46th Street, which is lined with restaurant after restaurant--most of which have a prixe fixe pre-theater menu.

Anyone know where I can get alpharoom discount codes?

Q. I am looking to book hotel with alpharooms, or travelrepublic or simular sites, i know that you can get discount codes, but does anyone know where?
Thanks

A. You can try this site, it may help you :)

Are there any discount codes for Hershey Park?
Q. I would like to know if there are any promotional codes for corporate discount codes that will work for Hershey Park. Also, if anybody has been there, what is the best ride there?

A. I dont think there are any promational codes, but there are quite a few places that you can get coupons from. The coupon is for $8 off each adult admission. There are also other coupons that you get. For a list of these places, you can go to hershey park's website. I know that subway is one place, and i think CVS is another. Also, if you stay at Hershey Parks hotel, lodge, or campground you get discounted tickets. You save the most with the hotel but idk how much that is. You save $15 on each adult admission at the campground, and you even get to go in the night before with the same ticket you will use for the whole next day!

My favorite ride there is Fahrenheit. It is the new roller coaster that just opened this year.

What happens if you use a corporate discount and your not in that corporation?
Q. I want to use this corporation discount code online for my family vacation and I dont know what will happen if I do use it. Please Help!!!!

A. You can go on the vacation. They could find out that you did not qualify for the corporate discount. You could be charged the full "rack rate" by the hotel And, since you have to sign the credit card authorization when you check in, there is not way to stop it. If you filed a complaint, they would only need to show that you attempted to get a discount using fraudulent means. They could show that to the credit card company, who would deny your claim. And the credit card company would have ground to pull your card.

Do you really want to lie for the discount? Can you imagine what a fool you will be, and how the family will fell about you when you are caught.

Whats the easiest way to get to boston?
Q. From stamford, ct and how much would it be in tolls?

A. just take AMtrak up to South Station in Bosotn
no tolls

or you could take I - 95 to 91 N to 84 E to the Mass Pike east, if youa re just visiting for the day, head to the Riversde T station in Newton (from the Mass Pike, take I 95 South, get off the first exit, veer right, merge and it will be on the left in less than a 1/4 mile - you pass a bidge and a hotel, if you see a golf course, you went oo far) parking is 6 dollars,

fi you are staying overnight then drive into the city (taking Amtrak is still better, Boston driving is notoriously bad)

tolls are not bad

from I -4 to I-95, tolls are 1.75 each way
from I 84 to Copley Square exit in Boston, tolls are 4.15 each way

I'm a 17 year old high school student who is planning on going to Boston for 4 or more days during the summer.?
Q. If anyone could please just make a list of things to do, places to go, as well as places to stay and eat while I'm there it would be greatly appreciated. Also, as a student i'm obviously on a budget. So anything cheap or free to do while i'm visiting the city would be great. Thank you very much!

A. Newbury Street is great for shopping. It has a lot of cute little shops. It can be expensive but is fun to just walk and look and not buy anything.
The Prudential Center also has some shops and a food court which has cheap food. It also has a restaurant called Wagamama that I love. It has a variety of asian food that isn't too expensive.
Copley Square is fun just to look around at old buildings. There is also a public library which is huge.
Fire and Ice which is around Copley is a really fun restaurant. You make a bowl of food and then bring it to the grill where they cook it.
There is a freedom trail which you can walk for free that brings you to many famous and historic sites. http://www.thefreedomtrail.org/
I also recommend the Museum of Science. It can be a bit expensive but it is definitely worth it and is absolutely amazing.
I would also go to the Boston Common and the Public Garden. There are also quite a few fast food shops around this area.
The Museum of Fine Arts has free admission on Wednesday nights I believe. If you like art this is definitely a good place to go.
I think the U.S.S. Constitution gives free tours during the day.
Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall is also a must. It has many shops and street performers.
If you don't have anywhere to stay I would look into hostels because hotels are quite expensive. It may be hard only being 17 though.
All of the things I mentioned are accessible by the MBTA. If you get a charlie card it is 30 cents cheaper than a charlie ticket per ride.
http://www.mbta.com/
Good Luck and Have Fun!!!
