What is difference between a hotel and a motel in America?

Q. I am studying American culture, and I want to know the difference between a hotel and a motel. Can I lent a room at a motel more cheaply?

A. Motels offer parking space with their rooms and are situated so that motorist travellers can go there without derivating from the highway or freeway too far, locating them occasionally in industrial or remote areas.
An example for a Motel chain is:

Hotels are usually situated more in the city centers or living quarters of the cities. You might or might not get a parking space when you lodge at a hotel.
An example for a hotel chain is:

Motels are often cheaper than hotels, but not always.
