A. I doubt it for that purpose but anyone can get a National Park Pass for $80 which is a significant discount over the individual entrance fees.

I think Amtrak is pretty much the best, or most reasonable way, but are there any services I can use to plan it? Any discounts for someone using these services for the purpose of visiting colleges?

A. You can us the Multi-City tool on Reservations. I've used this for multiple cross-county trips with stops before. It can get confusing, though. Make a calendar page for yourself and write-in where you are when, and how you are traveling there.
Find an Amtrak Travel Specialist at one of your local travel agencies. They can help you book both trains and lodging.
You can join Student Advantage and get 15% off Amtrak and Greyhound (and all sorts of other places). I think the card is $22.50 per year, so it's a no-brainer for you. Spend $150 between Amtrak and Greyhound, ant the card had paid for itself.

Q. I'm desperately trying to plan a coupld days away for my family but can't afford the high price of hotels these days. Does anyone know of a way to get a good discount at a Best Western Hotel? A free night would be fantastic even. I've been online for hours and can't find anything. :o(
