Where Are Some Nice Places To Eat In Belfast?

Q. Are there any nice places to eat in Belfast? Other than big branded places etc are there any independent or local restaurants?

A. I agree with above, villa italia is lovely. Italian food mostly which is all cooked amazingly.

Mollys yard up from botanic is a lovely little hole in the wall restaurant. It does wonderful food, grilled chicken, mussels etc. a little bit more up market. Plus they brew their own beer and stout on site. Their ice cream made from it is a treat and a wee glass of chocolate stout is dead tasty.

Madisons hotel on botanic do a fabulous to course menu. With a choices ranging from, pigeon, lamb shank, pork tenderloin to a standard burger it really is delectable. The food is top quality and the atmosphere is wonderful, mix in the cocktails for two pinds from 5 to 8 week days and you are in heaven.

Sakura across the street is a japanese restaurant (personally it feels more like an asian fushion restaurant to me) and does wonderful sushi. The swordfish is divine and the chilli tiger prawns were kicking. But don't trust the traditional wine they give you..its very strong :-)

The standard other place and maggy mays cafe's on botanic also offer quality cafe/hearty food at reasonable price.

The Thai village restaurant on dublin road was another discovery. It does wonderful aromatic curries, the roast duck is a thing of beauty and they even serve a wonderful thai beer which adds a nice touch. The portions are good, the prices reasonable, the owners are a lovely thai family who make you feel so welcome and the atmosphere is relaxed. gorgeous food!

The globe pub is a bit scuzzy but the food for students, at student prices is very nice.

If your about victoria squae in the city centre then you are landed, there are a whole host of places to eat, tgi fridays, o'biens, nandoes and a couple of independent restaurants which are all also very nice.

Red panda chinese in the oddessy is also amazing. Speaking of chinese, the welcome on botanic avenue is absolutely fantastic. If you are a fan of chinese food I would definately recommend it, also if you know your cuisine you can even order things that aren't offered on the pedestrian menu.

Benedicts also does wonderful food down opposite laverys pub.

Up in the stranmillis area there is giraffe and Yum. Both which offer extremely nice food. Yum is delicious and their quirky menu is mouthwatering. Cumberland sausages in onion gravy with champ anyone?

Look, basically Belfast is coming down with restaurants and most are very nice. Do a google search and then pick somewhere you fancy and type it into google again, there are tonnes of online reviews giving you more details about the places and the type of food they serve.

How much would it cost to go to America for 2 weeks?
Q. I only want to know how much it costs for myself to go, since I am only paying for myself. I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I'd be going to Florida and i'm wondering what the overall cost would be on average?

A. It depends on where you go and when. Low season in much of Florida is winter because the primary attraction is the beach. The weather is usually too cool to swim in the ocean from about early October until sometime in April. A few places like Orlando don't have a low season so it costs what it costs.

For travel costs (airfare, hotel, rental car) check the travel sites (airgorilla, expedia, priceline, travelocity, etc.) and also check the airline websites. I have often (not always, but often) found the best airfares on the airline websites.

For example:

www.aa.com
www.delta.com
www.united.com

Check with a real travel agent to ask about promotional fares and special deals.

If you also need a hotel or rental car, check the cost of combining the purchases in a package.

Budget $75 per day per person for meals and incidental expenses. You may be able to get by on less but don't plan that way.

Every attraction has a website that lists entrace fees.

Citizens of about 35 countries can travel to the USA for up to 90 days at a time as a tourist or for some business purposes by registering for ESTA > before < their trip begins. The cost is US$14, which is similar to the fee for the Australian ETA program.

Registering is accomplished online, you don't need the details of your trip, and the confirmation is valid for multiple trips to the USA over two (2) years so don't wait until the last minute.

Print the confirmation - or at least record the number - and keep the information with your passport. Having a return or onward ticket leaving North America is a requirement, so have a copy of your airline itinerary at passport control.

Check with your health insurance to find out if it covers you in the USA and pays for medical evacuation to home. If yes then take proof of coverage with you. If no or not sure then get trip medical insurance, which is cheap and sold by airlines & travel agents. The USA has wonderful medical care but it isn't free or even cheap. Having travel medical insurance is a requirement to enter some countries. Even if it's not, please do not skimp on this as an otherwise-silly accident could turn into a crisis if you don't have medical insurance. This is a link from the US government, but the info is good for anyone traveling outside their home country:

If you are planning a long visit then DON'T schedule your departure day for the 90th day (any part of a day in the USA counts as a whole day, so if you arrive at 23:59h on the 1st and leave at 00:01h on the 10th it is 10 days in the USA). Schedule your departure not later than the 88th day as there are no (zero) provisions in the Visa Waiver Program for someone to voluntarily extend their stay. If you miss your flight due to something Immigration might consider avoidable (ex. flat tire on the way to the airport) they may ban you from using the VWP in the future.
