Why do cheap hotels have free internet when you have to pay for it at expensive hotels?

Q. Cheap hotels (Less than $100) always have free internet whether its wifi or connected and other hotels ($100.00+) always charge $10-$20.00/day for the internet. Why is this?

A. Expensive hotels seem to have the mentality of "If he/she can afford to spend the night here, then he/she won't mind spending some extra on paying for internet. They know it's a rip-off but they don't care, they can pay for it". That is the expensive hotel's reasoning, whereas the cheap hotel provides it free to attract customers as they need many to make a profit.

A. You can check TripAdvisor.com for comments from past guests about hotels anywhere. Don't think you'd want a "cheap" hotel, from a safety standpoint.

If you're staying there because a family member is admitted to JH, check with the Social Services department at the hospital. Hospitals sometimes have special arrangements with hotels for such cases. There may also be a "Ronald McDonald" house nearby.
