Is Uk money worth more or less than USA dollars?

Q. I am in USA and im on a cheap hotels website thats www.hotels.co.uk and they are giving the prices of the hotels for instance Marriott says {79 a night. Is that $79.00?? The place im going is in USA . My main question if anyone can ask is.. Is the {79 uk money more or less than $79 us dollars?

A. that's pounds sterling which is the equivalent of about roughly $120 a night but there are places alot cheaper than that

How much should a 2 week trip to Japan cost for two people?
Q. Like comprehensive... including food, transportation, plane tickets, hotels, spending money etc etc

I'm doing a little math myself and it keeps coming up to about 10,000 with one week guided tour of south Japan and plane tickets. Does that seem right?

A. The airfare quoted is about right, but you don't have to spend the wildly high amounts for hotels and other things others quoted unless you want to. There are far less expensive budget accommodations if you want, and you can eat modestly for about USD13 each at an inexpensive restaurant, or for even less if you get a bento or groceries at a market.
But you don't say where you are going, so there are a lot of variables. If you want to go all over the country, consider getting a JR Rail Pass before you arrive in Japan (see www.japanrailpass.net). Or you can get a regional JR Pass for certain areas after you arrive. And you can get a subway day pass for about 1000 yen in many major cities. And there are overnight buses between Tokyo and Osaka or Kyoto, for example.
A few cheaper places to stay are at

www.superhoteljapan.com/en/
In fact if you have never stayed in a Japanese inn (ryokan) before, I recommend it at least a night just for the experience.
As for shopping, that is solely up to you. You can spend a couple of dollars here and there for some small mementos, or go all out where the sky is the limit. Again, it's up to you. But don't believe all the scare stories that you need thousands and thousands of dollars - if you want somewhere to stay that is decent yet clean, you easily can.
See www.jnto.go.jp for a lot of tourist info.

how did the supreme court contributed to the growth of the market economy?
Q. please be specific with at least one example of an actual case.

A. Justice Owen Roberts, switched positions and began voting to uphold New Deal measures, effectively creating a liberal majority in West Coast Hotel Co. v. Parrish and National Labor Relations Board v. Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation thus departing from the Lochner v. New York era and giving the government more power in questions of economic policies.

I am visiting Dallas for the first time. Can anyone suggest a good neighboorhood and a moderate price hotel?

Q. I will be also visiting Glen Rose but want to stay in Dallas and exlore it as wewll.

A. Since when did Dallas become the capital of crime? Geez.... there are so many parts of Dallas, it seems a little ignorant to group it all together. Its like saying that all cheeses are the same.

Here are some locations and possible hotels:

The Fairmont Dallas (Downtown Dallas)
Southfork Hotel (Plano)
The Westin Hotel Galleria (North Dallas)
Hyatt Place Dallas North (North Dallas)
aloft Frisco (Frisco- brand new)
The Westin Stonebriar Resort (Frisco- pricey though)

I live in a nicer area of Dallas and would be happy staying at any of these. Basically, to play it safe... stick with Highland Park/University Park area, SMU, North Dallas (635 between Dallas Parkway and 75.. this is by the Galleria Dallas), hotels located immediately around DFW airport, Plano (along the Dallas Parkway), Frisco (anywhere), Carrollton, Lewisville, Richardson

Stay away from: Harry Hines, South Dallas (Dallas Zoo area), Lower Greenville (its crazy on weekends), Deep Ellum (only because of recent unsolved shooting). Hope this helps!!

What are some good bars/clubs in downtown Dallas?
Q. Planning a trip to Dallas, TX in June. Staying in a hotel downtown, what are the hot spots?
I'm staying at Aloft Dallas Downtown hotel. I'm 21.

A. The bar at Aloft is supposed to be pretty nice. Or you can walk over to Main St. and check out the bar upstairs at the Iron Cactus.

However, I would recommend taking a cab to uptown (about 2 miles north) probably a $5-$6 cab ride. This is definitely the hot spot for people your age. Check out the Gingerman or Idle Rich if you want a pub. If you want a sports bar, try Frankie's or McKinney Ave Tavern. For a dance club, I recommend Liars Den. They have karaoke at Uptown Bar & Grill on the weekends.

Once you're on McKinney Ave, you're going to be able to just walk down the street from bar to bar until you find something you like.

Should I stay at Aloft or Sheraton in Charleston, South Carolina?
Q. I've read mixed reviews on both and need to make a decision.

A. hi there, unless you like the noise of aeroplanes,i"d select some where else, both hotels right next to the airport..have fun any way..merry xmas..

Where is the best places i should visit in BALI for a 5days 4nights trip ?

Q. I booked in Candidasia in Bali, Candy Beach Hotel. I am on a free and easy trip!Where should i visits ?Or which place i should be visits ?

A. You are making a great choice. I lived in Bali for 7 years and Candidasa is one of my favorite place to visit. To drive there is also an amazing experience. Make sure you visit : Bali's mother temple, Pura Besakih, Tenganan (the aboriginal people of Bali) and maybe take a ferry Lombok. Besides that take a trip to Lovina, Lembongan, Ubud on a further side. You have got to explore Bali and easy trips are not worth it. You can even take a bus to Legian, Nusa Dua and your trip to Bali will be complete. The bus company called Perama, and it's all over Bali. Have Fun !

Precautions to take when going to Bali with a toddler?
Q. Im going to Bali in October with my 17 month old son. He will be up to date with his immunisations according to Australian Standards. I know not to drink the water or use it to brush teeth etc. Any tips for the temperature, what to bring, what to do etc? Im staying in the Novotel Bali, has anyone had an experience with them?

A. We just got back Sunday from a short holiday in Bali. We stayed at the Sheraton Laguna in Nusa Dua (which I really recommend), so I'm sorry - I don't know much about the Novotel.

I'd recommend bringing with you:

-antibacterial gel/wipes
-bug repellent
-suntan lotion
-travel tissues/roll of toilet paper (WC situation at temples may not always be top notch)
-snacks (crackers or the like in case the spicy food catches up)
-immodium/pepto bismol (spicy food)
-sinus medication/panadol (our hotel was lovely, but a bit musty)
-handkerchiefs (even my eyeballs were sweating!)

We brushed our teeth with the tap water, which is filtered in most hotels, but didn't drink it.

Safety concerns - hire drivers from your hotel for the day, be aware that some extremist groups seek out Americans to target (and often cannot tell the difference between Aussies, Americans, & Brits), and guard yourself and little one against dengue fever with the bug repellent.

Heat - I'm not sure of temperatures when we were there, but there was precious little breeze when we were at temple sites, and the humidity is EXTREMELY high. Especially with a little one, try to stop in the shade, under fans, and keep large bottles of water with you. We found that we'd only get out and do 2-3 activities during the day, before we pooped out at the hotel in air conditioning.

With a child that young, I would *not* recommend the "Enchanted Monkey Forest." It's in all the books, but is a very small area, some distance from Nusa Dua/Kuta and the monkeys will jump all over you. I can attest to smelling of monkey waste for an entire day, and while a unique experience, you're not really missing much.

You absolutely should try to catch the sunset Ramayana Dance at the Uluwatu temple (every evening at 6pm), but again - beware the monkeys, one stole the sunglasses right off my head!

As long as you're careful, you'll have a wonderful time - we only encountered the best on our trip - it was beautiful and the people were so kind. :)

How can I travel to Bali from Kualalumpur?
Q. I'm planning to visit malaysia in 15 days. I would like very much to take this opportunity to visit Bali as well. However I'm on a tight budget and can't afford more than $200/person, for a 3 day tour to Bali with my husband and daughter. Is it possible to do this. Please guide me.

A. Hi - you need more than $200pp really as Bali is expensive - I live in Singapore and even from here it is not cheap - and its not worth it to be honest. Go to Lombok if you really want to visit Indonesia - its the next island form Bali and is less touristy. However if you are in Malaysia and want an island break, I recommend either Pulau Tioman or Pulau Sibu - Sea Gypsy resort at SIbu is great, Berjaya Hotel in Tioman is also very good. They are both on the web. By the way, Malaysia and Singapore are connected by a rail link as your other answer said but Bali is actually a 2 hour flight from Singapore and definitly doesn't have a rail link....

Hello: Which hotels in Chicago offer Suites available for rent for a 6-12 mos lease term?

Q. I have found a few but I need more to choose from. Please list any Hotels in Chicago that offer Suites available for rent on a monthly basis.

Thanks in advance for all positive answers.

A. All of them. It is all about negotiating a fair price and terms. Those hotels that don't readily have such terms set are better because it is likelier to sway them to your vision. You need to remind them that an empty room is not making any money for anyone. And, more money can be made on a suite rented 30 days a month for $90/night than it would be if rented 5 nights a month for $400/night . Don't forget the added saving points by not requiring daily maid service and toiletries.

Does anyone know if the Gazebo across from the Drake Hotel in Chicago is lighted year round?
Q. I have seen the Gazebo across the street from the Drake Hotel in Chicago lighted up before, but need to know if it is lighted year round (July in particular) or just during the holiday season. Thanks!

A. How about calling or emailing the Front Desk at the Drake Hotel, someone there should know.

Where is the nearest shopping center from the Grand Diamond Hotel in Bangkok?

Q. Where is the nearest shopping center from the Grand Diamond Hotel in Bangkok? Is Siam Paragon near Grand Diamond hotel? I'm staying at the Grand Diamond hotel when I visit this October...

I saw a picture of a mcdonalds statue with praying hands, I want to take a picture with it when i visit...where is that located? Is there one in MBK or Central World Plaza?

any more tips on shopping too?

thanks!

the most detailed reply i will choose as the best answer...

A. The Ronald McDonald at the McDonald's in Silom makes a wai with his hands.

Platinum is closest but not that great - its OK for clothes. Pratunam market is directly over the road (Petchaburi Road) from Grand Diamond, but that is a market rather than a mall but still good for shopping and cheap places to eat. Pantip Plaza (IT mall) is close - turn left out the front door of Grand Diamond and keep going for about 100 meters. Central World Mall is quite close (few hundred meters) - turn right out the front door of Grand Diamond, turn right at the first junction and keep walking for 200 meters. Siam Paragon is beyond that.

At the junction (that you turn right at to go to Central World) mentioned above - on the other side is a shop/restaurant that sells very delicious pork satay (moo satay) - I normally order 200 Baht and that gets me loads and keeps me going for a day or so. The massage place on that corner isn't one that I would recommend.

is the Asia Hotel Bangkok a good hotel for 4 teenagers :P?
Q. We have a 5 day layover in bangkok and we are staying at the asia hotel bangkok. is it good for 4 teens aged 19y.o? also does anyone know if you go down to pattaya can we use the Asia hotel pattaya's facilities like the pool?

A. I guess it's as good as any hotel for 19 yr. olds, it's not the best location in Bangkok but not bad at all, and is right next to the Skytrain for easy access to other areas. Whether you're able to use the facilities at their Pattaya sister hotel I'm sure the Asia Hotel would be the best place to ask. Quite often guests are allowed to use facilities at sister hotels as long as they are registered guests at one of their other hotels, but you better ask them to be sure.

Should i book a hotel before arriving to Bangkok and what part of Bangkok is best?
Q. G'day mates
Me and my mate are going to Bangkok for 2 weeks during 20th jan to 3rd of feb and we were wondering if we should book online or rock up to the hotel. Is Bangkok busy during this time? Also wanted to know what part of bangkok is the best place to be to enjoy the nightlife and shopping?

My friend also wants to know if $5000 AUD is too much for 2 weeks. He said would that be a good amount if u want a hotel around $140.

A. OK If you are staying in Bangkok for that long I suggest the Bel Aire Princess hotel. Its on Soi5 Sukhumvit. Across from Nana Plaza. This is by far the best area to stay in for nightlife, shopping and go-go bars. As for bringing money I always budget myself for £100 a day. This is alot and I always come home with money but there will be nights you will spent a bit.
Might I also suggest that 2 weeks in Bangkok is a long time. If I where you I would do 4 nights in Bangkok max then get a taxi to Pattaya. There you have beaches and 10 times the nightlife of Bangkok. That time of the year the weather will be really good and it will be less busy than dec start of jan.

Can the police search your hotel room without your consent in Nevada?

Q. Can the police search your hotel room in Nevada without a warrant or consent if the person above called 911 and reported smelling marijuana? And please have relevant sources.

A. The odor of marijuana is probable cause to search under the Plain View Doctrine (Arizona v. Hicks), which has been expanded to include Plain Smell.

This is a US Supreme Court case, so it is the same in every state.

This applies only if the officer was able to smell the marijuana. A report of someone else smelling it would probably not be enough to search without consent.

Do you know if there are any cheap hotels near Stansted Airport?
Q. Im going to spend a night there because my flight on the next day will be at 4 am..so I don't really want to waste so much on a night's stay. I've searched hotels near the airport but the cheapest is 50pounds per night. Is there any other cheaper hotels, if possible? Thanks so much.

A. You won't find much cheaper than that. The Travel Lodge hotels at Gt. Dunmow and Bishops Stortford (nearest to Stansted) are around £48 a night for a room and you will still need to arrange transport to the airport in the wee small hours if you aren't taking a car.
I'd be tempted to go with the first suggestion - arrive as late as possible and have a nap at the airport, if you need it (or sleep on the plane after take off. If the flight is at 4.0 a.m., you'll have to be at the airport at 2.0 a.m. at the latest which means you will hardly have got to bed before it's time to be up again.

In which part of Singapore would it be good to book a hotel?
Q. It would be my first time to travel to SG alone. Im trying to look for affordable hotels. So far Ive searched hotels in the areas of Little India and Orchard. Is it safe in Little India? and is it accessible enough and near the tourists places to visit?

A. If you choose to stay at Little India, you can definitely get good and affordable accommodation easily due to the easy availability of hotels there. Though the area is a bit dirty and dingy by Singapore standards, you can enjoy a safe stay there provided you exercise general caution, especially during the night. You have many Indian restaurants close by, and there is also the Singapore Gujarati Bhawan and an Indian temple close by. You can visit other tourist spots easily, thanks to the cheap and nominal rates of public transport. Do visit the Zoo and the National Museum.

Why does EVERY hotel in las vegas have a huge buffet?

Q. I travel alot, and I noticed that almost none of the hotels outside of Las Vegas have a buffet inside the hotel. So why do almost all of the hotels in las vegas have a buffet inside?

What goes into becoming a hotel event planner?

Q. I am currently studying hotel management, but really would love to be apart of the event planning department within a hotel. What kind of degree would I need? What would the average salary be? Ideally I would like to work in NYC at a more upscale hotel, or a well-known hotel chain.

A. That degree in hotel management/hospitality is all you need.
The rest you learn on the job.
Hotels have entire floors dedicated to event planning, catering, sales.
I know a friend that has done what you are doing.
He loves his job. Loves it.
He started out at front desk though, and not has moved up to management.
Not the greatest of pay though. But life is not all about money.

How does the hotel reservation system work?
Q. This is my first time to ever book a hotel in advance. I am planning a stay at the Moody Gardens Hotel in Galveston in April. I reserved the room tonight with my debit card, what is the process from here?

Again first time I am doing this, so I am clueless. Thanks

A. I work at a hotel front desk. With our property, it depends on how you book. If you book through a third party site like Expedia, Hotels.com, Travelocity, those company charge your debit or credit card immediately because the hotel later only recieves a portion of what you paid them. If you book directly on the hotel's website or over the phone, I know that with our hotel nothing is charged until check in but at check in, be prepared to also leave a security deposit. Our hotel puts a $50 deposit but people get pretty upset about it so I wanted to pass that on, some hotels are higher. Also, with debit cards, it usually takes about 7 days for any extra deposit to come off your debit card so just be aware of that :)

I would call and ask if you are unsure, just say "hello, I booked (say where) and I was wondering when my debit card get charged and will there be any deposit?" We are usually busy but that can be answered in less than a minute

Which hotel location is more convenient for sight seeing in Amsterdam?
Q. I'm planning to visit Amsterdam, Netherlands next week. I would like to know whether the Marriot Hotel (located between Leidseplein and Vondelpark) or the Renaissance Hotel (located between Central Station and Dam Square) would be more convenient given the winter weather.

Which hotel location is better for tourist to see the major attractions in the wintertime? Any other travel tips for exploring Amsterdam in December? Thank you.

A. The Renaissance by all means (I've been to Amsterdam, and I am a hotel manager of 8 years ). The location is beautiful and close to stuff thats historic, and entertainment - the redlight district, the hard rock, lots of tours n stuff.

What is the cheapest airline fare to Cebu?
Q. I plan to visit in Cebu this Dec and I hope I can avail a very cheap tickets and also a very cheap hotel rates but not junk place. Any idea what website to search or where? Thanks

A. Its best to book your airline tickets way ahead to avail of on-going promos, Cebu Pacific are always open for seat sales. Zest Air just recently opened its Manila-Cebu route for a cheap price as well. No problem with the flight times though, as there are hourly schedules everyday. With Cebu's hotels, there are a lot of cheap, clean and well situated ones in the city. Try The Mayflower Inn, that's right next to the provincial capitol building and a block after that is the East Capitol Pension. Both have cheap room rates and comfortable rooms. No frills at all.
Have a great time in Cebu!

Is there a shuttle from the airport to the orleans hotel in los Vegas?
Q. If not what are some shuttle services we could look into to take us to the hotel?

A. The Orleans offers a FREE shuttle service to and from the Strip (mid Strip, excellent stop) but not to and from the airport. However, there are AFFORDABLE shuttle services from the airport which will take you ANYWHERE in Vegas, from the arrival section of the airport, you can't miss them, and they operate all the time. A great service. You can also book them from your resort to the airport. If you are one person or 2, they are MORE affordable than taxis. If you are a group, then a large taxi may be more affordable, but they do charge extra I think for many suitcases etc.

Is the hotel Lisa and Elliot stay at in the novel Exit to Eden based on a real New Orleans hotel?
Q. The initial hotel with the private quarters in back.
Can you tell me the name?

A. We were two ladies travelling in Delhi recently We stayed at the Park Hotel they picked us up from the airport late in the evening it is situated in the Connaught area It is fairly expensive but well situated for the tourist. We have never had a problem travelling in India including Delhi take the obvious precautions of course do not flash your money about in public. You will love India it is a great country. Which part of Hong Kong do I need to go to take a Ferry going to Macau? How long long is the travel?
Q. How much is the cost in the Ferry going to Macau?

I am booked at Wynn Casino Hotel, how will I go to Senatorâs Park? How far is this Hotel from Venetia Casino Hotel

What are the tourist spots in Macau? Is it a small city that I can easily move around? Is itadvisable to reach Macau from Lantau Island in Hong Kong?

A. For taking ferry to Macau from Hong Kong, there are two places that you can take from:
1. HK Macau Ferry Terminal at Shun Tak Centre, Connaught Road West, Sheung Wan at Hong Kong Island side. It's near to Sheung Wan MTR Station which is 1 station west of Central MTR Station on Island Line (the terminus station for Island Line). From Airport, take Citybus A11 to Shun Tak Centre.
2. HK China Ferry Terminal at Harbour City Gateway, Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui at Kowloon Side. It's near Kowloon Park (West of Kowloon Park) and its within walking distance from Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Station/East Tsim Sha Tsui KCR Station for Tsuen Wan Line for MTR and East Rail Line for KCR (thats go all the way to Lo Wu, Shenzhen). From Airport, take Airport Express to Kowloon Station and take a taxi.

The cost for the ferry is from HK$142 for Turbojet for Weekdays and from HK$152 for weekends and service from both Terminals. For NWFF, from HK$133 for weekdays and from HK$148 for weekends. It departs from HK China Ferry Terminal only. Timings are approx. 60-75 minutes depending on several factors (eg. type of vessels, weather condition etc.)

For Macau, the best way is take a taxi to around, so all your trip will be by taxi. The distance between Wynn Macau and Venetian is not very far and its only 10 to 15 minutes taxi ride between the two.

There are many tourist spots in Macau and if you want to knoe more, visit: http://www.macautourism.gov.mo/en/index.php for the details. Yes, Macau its a very small city that its easy to get around and taxi fares here are inexpensive in western standard as on par with many asian destination. As for getting from Lantau Island in Hong Kong to Macau, currently its not advisable until the new bridge is constucted that plies between Hong Kong and Macau. But if you want, you can take a taxi to Mui Wo and take a ferry to Central Ferry Terminal, than walk to Central MTR Station and take the MTR Island Line towards Sheung Wan and alight at Sheung Wan Station. Or Taxi to Tung Chung MTR Station. Take the Tung Chung Line all the way to Hong Kong Station. Transfer at Central Station and follow the above mention.

Q. Trying to find websites or whatever to tell me what are the closest hotels near the New York Hotel in Las Vegas.

A. Here is a link to an interactive map of the las vegas strip http://www.visitlasvegas.com/vegas/stay/planning-information/maps/?map=5 If it is not on South Strip, click on "select another map" and click on South Strip. The hotels surrounding Ny Ny are MGM Grand, Tropicana, Excalibur (connected to Luxor and Mandalay Bay) and Monte Carlo. Of those, Tropicana is the worst, Mandalay Bay is the best. Excalibur and Monte Carlo are the most affordable, and Luxor and MGM Grand have the best party atmospheres. Mandalay Bay has the best pool, with MGM Grand coming in 2nd, followed by Tropicana.

Distance from New York New York Hotel in Las Vegas to Las Vegas Convention Center?
Q. We are trying to find out the distance from the New York New York Hotel (near the Airport) to Las Vegas Convention Center purposely to attend an event. How many minutes by taxi please?

A. You can use this website to estimate taxi fare http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main.php?city=LV and it says that the distance from Ny NY Hotel to the Las Vegas Convention Center is 4.1 miles and will take 7 minutes. The total cost would be $17.26 including 15% tip.

An alternative would be to take the monorail. From New York New York, walk across the street to MGM Grand and follow the signs inside to the monorail station. Buy tickets at the kiosk ($5 one way or $12 for a one-day pass to get you there and back) and hop on the monorail. It stops at Bally's, Flamingo, Harrah's and then the Las Vegas Convention Center and it will take you a total of maybe 5 minutes to get there, it's really fast. http://lvmonorail.com/

Anyone have a hotel recommendation in Shinjuku, Japan?

Q. I'm planning to tour the Tokyo region and will be buying a week long train ticket. Does anyone know a good hotel that's affordable and close to the Shinjuku station? Thanks guys!

A. Hotels are generally more expensive in Shinjuku. There's a business hotel named Kadoya which I usually stay in. It is 3 mins walk to the station and located between Keio hotel and Shinjuku station. A double room costs 13650Yen which is much cheaper than the bigger hotels nearby.
http://www.kadoya-hotel.co.jp/eng/index.html

The train network in Tokyo is really convenient. If you are just touring Tokyo, you may want to stay in Ikebukuro where the hotels are cheaper. It is also a major station and does not take much longer to get around.

Hope this helps!

Can anyone share your information about Shanghai hotels? I plan to have a Shanghai travel next week!?
Q. Does anyone know any hotel in Shanghai? I am going to stay in Shanghai next two weeks, could anybody recommend me some Shanghai hotels which might have great location or specific story? Thanks a lot!

A. Hi, I have been to Shanghai for several times, and I think I can recommend you some really great hotels to you.

Astor House Hotel
http://astorhouse.sinotour.com/
http://www.astorhousehotel.com/en/fdjj/fdjj.php
This hotel is very popular among many foreign tourists, no matter they go to Shanghai on business or spend their leisure time there, this hotel provides great services for its guests. And many world-famous people had stayed in this hotel before, such as Einstein or Chaplin. Itâs located in the business and financial district, very convenient for you to get the business centers.

Park Hotel Jin Jiang
http://china.hotels.hu/shanghai/jin-jiang-park-hotel/hotel-information.en.html
http://parkhotelsh.sinotour.com/
If you are looking for a hotel which has long history, Park Hotel is a great choice. This hotel is built in 1930s in Shanghai, and itâs a star-leveled hotel which has the longest history here. Because itâs also near the airports (both Hong Qiao Airport and Pudong Airport), this hotel provides great convenience for the business men. Near the hotel there are also several spots you can visit, such as Shanghai Grand Theatre, or Peopleâs Squareâ¦etc.

Metropole Hotel Jin Jiang
http://www.holidaycity.com/jinjiang-metropole-shanghai/index.html
http://metropolehotel.sinotour.com/
This hotel is one of the branches administered by Jin Jiang International Hotel Co. If you travel Shanghai in order to visit around this city, this hotel offers great location for you and your families. Some world-famous spots such as the Bund, Yu Garden, Peopleâs Square, and Nanjing Road are really close by.

Mansion Hotel
http://mansion.sinotour.com/
http://travel.nytimes.com/travel/guides/asia/china/shanghai/hotel-detail.html?vid=1154668130304
Mansion Hotel is a five-star hotel which belonged to Du Yuesheng (a famous gangster in the 1930s in Shanghai) before. If you are interested in the history of old Shanghai, this hotel might satisfy you. The Shanghai Railway Station is near the hotel too, you can go to other parts of city by metro.

Oriental Riverside Hotel
http://www.gz020hotel.com/enghotels/992.htm
http://orientalriverside.sinotour.com/
It is a great hotel for the business men, itâs right inside
Shanghai International Conference Center. This hotel is really large, and it occupies 110 thousand square meters. It merely takes you a few minutes to reach Peopleâs Square by car. Besides, itâs next to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower too, you can see beautiful night views of Shanghai city from it too.

Hope these advices will be helpful!

is it cheaper to book Vegas hotels online or the day of at the hotel?

Q. I need to know if anyone knows from EXPERIENCE if its cheaper to book a hotel online for Vegas hotels or at the hotel, the day off. I am looking at Treasure Island or whatever is on the strip.

The reason I ask is because I figure hotels need to unload hotel rooms the day off and I might be able to get it cheaper than booking online.

A. Several years ago they did just that. You would see on the giant screens outside the hotels rooms for a few dollars. They don't do that anymore. The reason is they advertise the low rates in trying to get people to Vegas. Once you are here you either booked a room or will need one. Those who didn't book will have to pay the higher price or go without. So it is in the better to book cycle that wait until we get there.

Is the water coming out of Las Vegas hotels cold?
Q. I was wondering how cold is the cold water that comes out of Las Vegas Hotels?

Is it warm because it's warm there?

A. You are correct. The water from the faucet is not very cold, rather it is warm from the cold side. That and the fact that it has an awful taste and a brownish color is normal, I am afraid. That is why water filter systems are areal big here in Vegas.

What Vegas hotel has women painted above the urinals in the men's bathroom?
Q. I was in Las Vegas this summer and went into a men's bathroom and on the wall in front of the urinals were pictures of women looking down at your business. Some of the pics had women laughing, some with measures tapes, some with a surprised look on their face. I took a picture of it b/c it is so funny to see! Now, I can't remember which hotel...

What Vegas hotel has that?

A. It's the Las Vegas Hilton bathroom not too far from the main cashier's cage. There are a number of bathrooms at Hilton but this is the only one with the photos of the women.

What are the best options to travel from Baltimore to Washington DC?

Q. We are having a difficult time finding hotels in DC that aren't $10000000 for the Obama inauguration. I found a pretty good deal for air & hotel for Baltimore, but how much of a pain in the rear would that be to get to and from in general. Obviously, things will be amped up 1000 times during this time.

I don't have a freakin' clue about this part of the country, so any thoughts are welcomed. :)
You are the best KAL! :) *hugs*

A. There's MARC and there's Metro, so you should be okay going in from Baltimore by rail. Take MARC to Union Station, and then take Metro to get more specifically where you need to go once you're in DC.

Q. some friends and i are planning a camping trip for a few days but want to be close to the Smithsonian to because we'll be staying in DC for a couple days too. Any suggestions on campgrounds and maybe even nifty hotels in DC. Thanks in advance!

How do you calculate the 13% sales charge added to New Orleans Hotels?
Q. I'm going to New Orleans in a couple weeks for Mardi Gras! I have already paid for my hotel in full but the confirmation says I have to pay 13% sales tax and an occupancy tax. I'm not from America, I live in the UK and don't know US taxes. Is that 13% of the total room rate or something else? How is it calculated?
The occupancy tax is $1 per night. The room rate was $279 per night.

A. I think it's just like this:

279 * 13%

Not including the occupancy tax.

Need advice on good places to vacation for skiing?

Q. We're a group of 4 college students hoping to go on a ski vacation. We're from Cleveland, Ohio, and hope to travel less than 10 hours wherever we go to (we're driving). We need a place with a hill for advanced skiers and another for beginners. We also need it to not be too expensive of an area. Any recommendations for what ski places we should hit up?

A. Your best bet is most likely Seven Springs in southwestern PA. Snowshoe in West Virginia would also be an OK bet. I haven't been to Seven Springs in years. Snowshoe wouldn't be too bad either. I've never been there but I think it has more trails to offer.

Blue Mountain and Elk Mountain are both in eastern PA. They are both very similar in terrain and amenities. I prefer Elk because you don't have to ski over the same terrain over and over again to get to different runs, but the two resorts are about the best in eastern PA.

Gore Mountain in New York is about 8.5 hours away. If you are looking for a longer trip then I would suggest this or push a little further on to Vermont and hit Killington or Okemo. Western NY and most PA resorts are good for a full day of skiing. If you are looking for a destination, these are not what you want. You'll be bored by day #2, at least at Gore or most of the VT resorts there are plenty of slopes to occupy your time over a mult-day period.

Tremblant in Quebec is just over 10 hours away. Just another option I'll throw out there.

As for cheap...well, you can save on lift tix by buying ahead of time and by using some of the special deals. Many resorts will offer student discounts, so dig around on the websites and you can usually find a deal. Chances are you are going to do this trip over the holiday break or at some other time when a lot of other people also have off...that means deals are scarce. So dig deep. You might score up some multi-day tix and you can always skimp on the hotel room and slum it at the Inn of the Dancing Shiva when slopeside condos are not in the budget.

Consider the Road Trip and hit up a few resorts over a few days. You may be able to get a deal on Monday one place and Tuesday at another. I do this often. My January trip this year will take me to Smuggler's Notch VT one day, Mad River Glen VT the next day, and Stratton VT the next. We are still debating hitting Hunter or Windham NY on day 4. Regardless, the most we are going to pay for a day ticket will be $12 based on the deals we have. These aren't even industry deals...they are out there for everyone. You just have to know where to get them and be able to manipulate your schedule to make the time when the deals occur.

How far away is Strongsville from downtown Cleveland, OH?
Q. And what is the best way to get from there to cleveland? I am only 20 and the enterprise rent-a-car's in cleveland have age restrictions, so is there a transit that goes from and to both places and how much are taxi's usually? Also, if you could give me any information of cheap hotels in cleveland (less than $70 a night), that would be very helpful.

A. Check out the rta trip planner here:

http://tripplanner.gcrta.org/

It may be able to get where you're going for cheap.

There are so many different taxi companies that you may want to call around. Here is a list of some, and some of those include reviews of their service:

http://maps.google.com/maps?rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&q=taxi&near=Cleveland,+OH&fb=1&view=text&sa=X&oi=local_group&resnum=1&ct=more-results&cd=2

Here is a link to a place where you can compare prices on hotels:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g50207-Cleveland_Ohio-Hotels.html

And here is where you can read reviews about the hotels:

http://maps.google.com/maps?rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&q=hotel&near=Cleveland,+OH&fb=1&view=text&sa=X&oi=local_group&resnum=1&ct=more-results&cd=2

But I think your best bet might be to visit your local AAA. They should have all kinds of guides about local hotels and some of the other information you'll need.

Are there any hotels Chicago that allow under-21 guests?

Q. I'm a 20 year old college student visiting Chicago this Saturday. I had been planning on getting a hotel room until it occurred to me that some hotels require you to be 21 to check in. Are there any hotels in Chicago that only require me to be 18 to check in?

A. Here's the thing...
Pretty much every hotel downtown has a minibar in the room, so they can't rent the room to somebody under 21 (because of the beer and stuff). So what you need to do is call around to the big name hotels like Holiday Inn or the Hapton Inn and check on their policy before you book the room. Some hotels may allow a parent to sign for the room, some may allow you to rent the room if they remove the minibar...just don't go book the room online and try to sneak in because they'll ask you for an ID and when they see that you're not 21 you could be without a room, and you don't want to do that because you'll end up paying a walk in rate, which is always high.
Look at the hotels near the airports, they're always about $50-$100 cheaper per night, you can take the elevated trains to downtown for $2 each way, and you're more likely to find a hotel that will let you rent a room. You can always come back to answers and ask for directions from the el's stop to the schools you're looking at.

What part of Chicago would be the best to stay in for a trip?

Which one would be the best part? I've never been and I REALLY need to be good!!

A. The first two would be nicest.

Early transportation from Venice hotel to airport?

Q. I am visiting Venice and staying near the Rialto Bridge. My flight back home is at 6:30am. Are there taxis that can take me to the airport or do I need to take a vaporetto? Do vaporettos even run as early as 3:30am (when I should leave for the international flight)?

Will I need to go to the train station and take the train to the airport? I will be exhausted so I am OK with paying more for the quickest way to get to the airport.

Thanks!

A. The earliest bus (#35) leaves Piazzale Roma about 5:00 and arrives at the airport at about 5:20. As indicated at the bottom of the schedules page it leaves from the D2 stop: http://www.atvo.it/orari/pdf_airport/mpolovenezia.pdf

Your best bet is a taxi from Piazzale Roma to the airport. It takes about 20 minutes like the bus.

There is an Alilaguna boat on the Blu line that leaves from the San Marco stop at 3:40 am and arrives at the airport at approximately 5 am. The schedule is here: http://www.alilaguna.it/?funzione=120&idstazione0=2&idstazione1=5&fascia=5&x=22&y=15 The boats from the Rialto stop to the airport don't run that early.

Personally, I would go with the taxi from Piazzale Roma.

What are the best hotels in Italy to stay for a vacation?

There are two hostels which you might be interested, which are located close to where you want to be....

The Noel Street Youth Hostel, based in central London, near Oxford Street has had good reviews in the press over the last few years - so I would go for that one.

Anyone have personal recommendations for good 4 or 5 star hotels in London?
Q. I know this might sound crazy but I'm already in the preliminary stages of planning a trip to London in 2012 for the Olympics.

First problem is, I've never been to London and really have no knowledge of it at all.

So that brings me to my question. Does anyone have any recommendations for any good four or five star hotels centrally located in London?

Looking for a hotel that will be in the middle of the madness in London in 2012.

Thanks!

A. 2012 is too far in advance and of course prices will not have been set for then.

But you should have a look through the 4 and 5 star options here :

London : http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/

There are so many options , so narrow it down a bit into desirable areas to stay like :

Knightsbridge : http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/Knightsbridge/
Mayfair : http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/Mayfair/
South Kensington : http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/South-Kensington/

Centrally located is probably not the best place. The City is wher ebusiness is conducted ... and closer to the London Olympic venues , but hardly desirable.

What are the best hotels to stay at in London? and Where to visit?
Q. I am wanting a hotel that is close to main attractions and what not, and preferably with a nice view. Hopefully a hotel where its easy to maneuver to get to everything. Im wanting a great experience so besides the "Main" attractions what else are some good local places to stop and see? Im 20, if that helps with places to recommend.

Thanks for the help.
Thanks Snowman. The info you provided is very helpful. Would you be able to recommend any local hangouts in London? Perhaps where you and your friends would go..Breweries etc..

A. Hi mizshaionex

There's some big questions in this and the answers can only be a bit subjective. But I'll give it my best shot :

The best hotels are going to be the most expensive in the location that suits you. So first you have to work at where you are going to stay and how much you want to pay.

One of the best site's is http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/ . You can filter your results by stars , apartments or hotels , price and facilities. The discounts can be very high and with the savings you can afford to have better hotels. There is a map on the site which will help you.

London is as flat as a pancake , so to get a view you need to stay in a hotel with several floors , so try the taller hotels , maybe overlooking Hyde Park or Kensington Gardens.

"Near atractions" - most places are located around the West End , try

Rich and Famous Areas :
http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/Mayfair/ Mayfair
http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/Knightsbridge/ Knightsbridge .... where Harrods is
http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/Piccadilly/ ... Piccadilly , the centre of theatre land and nightlife
http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Kingdom/London/Victoria/ ... near Buckingham Palace , but not really exclusive

Also try the official London Tourism site here http://www.visitlondon.com , but for hotels i recommend the above

Does anyone know if there are any hotels in chicago with outdoor hot tubs?

Q.

A. I just did a lot of web searching but could not find any hotel with outdoor hot tub. I only knew that the Residence Inn Downtown/SpringHill Suites River North (which is located at 410 N Dearborn St, Chicago, IL 60654) has hot tubs. But not outdoor.

The James Hotel at 55 E Ontario St, Chicago, IL 60611 (between Fairbanks Ct & Mc Clurg Ct) also has hot tubs in the bathroom.

If you are ok with hotels offering Jacuzzi, then the Elysian Hotel at 11 E Walton St, Chicago, IL 60611(between State St & Rush St) and the The Peninsula Chicago at 108 E Superior St, Chicago, IL 60611 (between Rush St & Michigan Ave) are nice options.

Which hotel on Magnificent Mile in Chicago is the overall best?
Q.

A. The top rated hotels with Magnificent Mile-River North locations are Elysian, Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, Peninsula, Park Hyatt and Trump International Hotel and Tower.

Best Hotel to watch chicago air and water show?
Q.

A. Since most of the activities would take place at North Avenue Beach, you can try hotels located from Oak Street to Fullerton Avenue. Actually, there are lots of good options for you to watch all the action both in the sky and lake.

The Drake Hotel: the hotel is a couple of blocks from Lake Michigan and have a great view of the show. Ambassador East Hotel (at 1301 N State Pakeway, 60610), The Westin Michigan Avenue Chicago (909 N Michigan Avenue, 60611) and Elysian (11 E Walton Street, 60611) are great.

If you are looking for cheap ones, then consider Residence Inn by Marriott Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile (201 E Walton St, 60611) and Belden Stratford Hotel (2300 N Lincoln Park W, 60614).

**Stay at hotels on Oak Street Beach to enjoy to water part of the show. But if you are more interested in the air part, I recommend you to stay at hotel near Foster Avenue. Personally, I prefer to go out and watch the show on a boat on the lake. If possible, you can take advantage of the And Water part of the show! That is amazing.

What is the best and worst quarters of Paris, France?
Q. I don't mean in terms of tourism. I mean by the area itself. I want to rent a chambre d'hôte in Paris. But I want a place that is in a relatively quiet neighborhood, very non-tourist, friendly, and definitely has that French charm. What is the best quarter to stay in? Also, what are the worst quarters to stay/be in?

A. You'll see tourists everywhere in Paris but much less at residential neighbourhoods.

Considering all you mention, I think that the 17th district would be the best. It's quiet, safe, smart without being snob. Some streets are noisy because there are many stores (avenue de Ternes, rue de Courcelles, avenue de Wagram, rue de Lévis) but even those streets are very nice. Part of the 17th is not good, avoid the area around tube stations : Porte de Saint Ouen, Guy Môquet, la Fourche, place de Clichy.

The 15th district is residential and nice though probably has a bit less charm but it's a typic parisian neighbourhood where many families with children live and it's safe. No tourists.

The 16th is nice, residential, absolutely safe, very smart, quiet (most of all the South part of the district, tube stations : Ranelagh, porte de la Muette, maison de la Radio, Mirabeau, Ãglise d'Auteuil, it's less quiet at tube stations : Trocadero and Victor Hugo - but still lots more quiet than the heart of Paris). Avoid tube stations : Foch and Porte Dauphine.

The worst neighbourhoods : In general, avoid the area around 2 train stations : Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est, avoid also staying around the Porte de Clignancourt (18th district), Pigalle, Barbes, Porte de la Chapelle.

How can I book a 5 star hotel room?
Q. I am planning to book a hotel room in a 5 star hotel in another city that I will be travelling from. My plan is to travel from my city by a cab at 3 A.M. and then get to the hote by 6 A.M. and stay a few hours in the hotel refreshing myself , then leaving to the airport. I want to know how can I book for a room. and would it be a problem to book for an early time like wut i planned for ( from 6-10 A.M.)

A. A 5 star hotel would usually have checkout at 11 am, maybe 12 noon. For instance, one I looked up had checkin from 3pm, checkout as late as 12 noon. (Look up the specific hotel you have in mind to check). That means you have that room for as much or as little of that 21 hours that you want. Checking in at 6am is not a problem at a 5 star motel, so long as you don't mind paying a full night's tariff when you're only going to use it for 4 hours.

What is the weather like in Las Vegas in March? What is the best way to book a trip to Vegas?

Q. What are the best deals in Vegas - hotels, shows, tours, and buffet. Want to come their end of March for my birthday, don't gamble just want enjoy the sites and food. Need advice!

A. We enjoy going towards the end of March. If you go too early you hit NASCAR and it gets pricey. The weather is mild normally in the 60's low 70's. It gets cool at night so bring a jacket. If you haven't gone to Vegas before I'd suggest going through a Travel Agent, they can give you some great ideas. Have Fun!

Why are Vegas hotels expensive the last week in March?
Q. I see all kinds of ridiculously good deals for Vegas hotels during weekdays (i.e. Mandalay Bay, Venetian for circa $100). However, those same hotels cost $300+ on weekdays in the last week in March? Why is this? Is there a special event? Do you think they will have last minute deals?

A. convention and march madness is what will drive the prices up.

When is the off season to travel in Vegas?
Q. My husband and I want to go with another couple to Vegas so that she can get married and we can renew our vows. We got married in Vegas 5 years ago. We want to stay on the strip, like at ceasers or Harrahs. When is the best time for flights and hotel deals?

A. Now is a good time to make reservations. Between now and Christmas and middle of January till end of March is a good time to get deals to Vegas. Always remember to check the Convention Center calendar before booking your flight to make sure there are no major events in town.
Here are tips on how to get a cheap flight

and discount hotels

A. http://park.hongkongdisneyland.com/hkdl/en_US/tools/transportation/detail?name=ByBusDetailPage

On weekdays you can take airport bus route no. A21 and change to Disneyland buses at the Lantau Link Toll Plaza. There is a bus stop on the other side of Nathan Road from Mira Hotel.

Q. We're planning to visit Hong Kong Disneyland this 1st week of March & we intend to stay at the Disneyland Hollywood Hotel. However, it is not clear from their website if the hotel rate/charges already include free admission or free ticket to the Disneyland Park, which costs about HK$290 (off-peak) to 350 (peak).

A. Unless it says, it is included in the package you buy, admission to the theme park is separate.

How much is the taxi fare between the San Juan airport and the Intercontinental Hotel?

Q. The Intercontinental Hotel is in Isla Verde.

A. The Intercontinental Hotel is only about 5 miles from the airport. The cab fare should be about $8.00.

Have a great vacation!

Can you take the El from Chicago Midway Airport to the downtown hotel Intercontinental?
Q. We are trying to find the best way to the Intercontinental hotel from the airport.

A. If you want to get to the hotel doorstep, no you can't take the L all the way. Take the Orange line to the Library stop then catch the # 146 bus at State and Van Buren. Go north to Michigan & Hubbard (Tribune Bldg.) then walk about 1 block north to the hotel.

Cookbook cafe in Intercontinental hotel London UK?
Q. Hey has anyone eaten in the cookbook cafe in the Intercontinental hotel London? If so did u enjoy it?

A. It's a decent option for breakfast / brunch (which is served buffet-style) if you're staying in the hotel or nearby, but otherwise I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. It's best suited for dining during the day, not a special evening meal. Service can be slow.

You can read some reviews here:

What exactly is a hotel deposit for reservation?

Q. I booked a hotel in Orlando today and they took one night room rate out of the two nights stay as a deposit to hold my room. Does that deposit go towards the total amount? Or will I be charged the total amount when I check in/out of the hotel or just the second night room rate? I'm confused.

A. It goes towards the total amount. If you do not cancel the reservation before a certain time, usually 24 to 48 hours before check in, you lose the deposit.

Some hotels take the money immediately and some wait until check in time. Read the fine print. Some have no refund at all.

Which Universal Orlando Resort Hotel is the best?
Q. We are a family of 4 and were going to Universal Orlando this Summer. But which resort is better?
The Hard Rock Hotel Orlando Deluxe Queen Room
or
The Loews Portofino Bay Hotel Orlando Deluxe Queen Room

Thank You.

A. I stay at both of the hotels at least twice a year.

Personally, I'm in love with both. The Hard Rock is typically better for a party or celebration, also great for relaxing, but there's always a lot of hype going on. They only have one pool, which kinda is a bummer.
The Portifino Bay, though, is so relaxing. I was just there in September (last time I stayed there, but I was just visiting there the other day), I love the atmosphere, they have 2 pools, the rooms are really nice and luxurious. And the best thing about it, in my opinion, is that it's so much less crowded than the Hard Rock.

For my eighteenth birthday this year I'm staying at both of the hotels. I can't just decide on one anymore! haha, that would be my suggestion.
But of course, when you stay at one, you can always use the amenities of the other.

And upgrade to club level! Always a must for free drinks and food! :D

Are there any hotels in Orlando that are for adults, not kids?

which is better to visit key west or miami?

Q. planning a vacation next sept 29- oct 6 to disney world for 4 nights and then we wanted to drive down to cheack miami or key west. which place is better?? i was looking for a cheap but nice hotel that will sleep 5, or 2 cheap rooms. would like something close to the beach. what is there to do that don't cost much money? so if any one knows a good place to stay and great things to do that ould help alot.

A. About this time there are good hotel breaks in the Keys but Key Largo I find gives the best deals because once you go down to Key West you know its going to be more because its where all the tourist end up going. As a local Key Largo and Islandmorada is about as far as I go just because fishing and water sports is about all you are going to get on any of the Keys only Key West has a downtown district its still an island none the less expect more relaxing do nothing approach.

Honestly I like Orlando better then Miami, I go to Orlando all the time and its better priced. I would recommend even staying there because its almost a mirror image of Miami with theme parks and even the people are bit nicer.

If you want super deals head to the West Florida Naples has great deals some even offer stay 3 get one day free and the location is better situated then other destinations in Florida and at a $129.99 a night price.

What is the best area to stay in Key West?
Q. We are planning a trip to Key West this summer and I am at a complete loss as to what is the best area of town. Our interests are being close to the beach ( of course) plus being within walking distance of Duval St.
We are looking to soak up some of the local culture - but want to make sure the area we rent in is safe and close to the best local attractions. Any ideas?

A. I live about a 5 minute walk from Smather's Beach right now, and it is absolutely fine to live in that area. I would walk alone anywhere in Key West at night. Key West, though very full of tourists at this time of the year, is a safe place to live.

If you stay at any of the large chain hotels here you will be on the bus route to get downtown, and within reasonable walking distance of the beaches. Key West is only 4 miles long and 2 miles wide, so practically anywhere is within walking distance.

Many people like to stay downtown, close to Duval. If you choose to do that, it will be noisier, but it will be closer to the action. Somewhere in Old Town will be closer to most of the attractions. If I were you, I'd choose a hotel that fits your budget - Key West can be expensive - and then use public transportation, rent a bicycle here, or walk. For one day you could take a tour on the Old Town Trolley, and then you can get on and off all day from any of the 12 stops along the route - which will take you all over the island, including by each of the beaches and along Duval.

What are some good hotels in Key West?
Q. Never been to Key West and trying to book a descent room close to all the attractions.

A. I lived in Key West for over 8 years. The hotels that are right downtown are sometimes pricey, however, you will be right in the middle of everything. The Hyatt has a beautiful place, with the best Bloody Mary I have ever had! Also, the Ocean Key House has a perfect sunset view. On Duval Street there is a Holiday Inn La Concha and this puts you front and center for all of the Duval Street action. There are many hotels that are not downtown, but this requires you to have a car or rent a moped in order to get around. Good luck!

Is the Savoy hotel really that expensive?
Q. I found good deals in expedia, tripadvisor and other reliable websites that were about 5000 dollars for an 8 day stay at the hotel, and round trip...for two people!
I thought this was fake but its actually the real price.....how is this? I thought the Savoy was one of the most expensive hotels in London, even more now that theres too many tourists..plus there were other less known hotels that were around the same price...

A. The Savoy can be very expensive. Make sure that it is the Savoy in London the deal is referring to - there are more Savoys in the UK and elsewhere.

What is the most luxury hotel in London?
Q. .

A. Well, the Savoy is closed for refurbishment

So, I'd say the Ritz
