Q. Who pays the cost of the tickets, hotel etc when a model has to travel for a shoot/show? Does the model pay for it all? Or the agency?

A. The agency doesn't pay for any travel. Either the client pays, the model pays upfront, or the agency advances money to the model then takes it out of any work they book plus interest

It's normally the booking client who pays. So if you were booked on a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue shoot in Barbados or a Gucci shoot in Rome, then Sports Illustrated or Gucci will pay for the flight, hotel, meals and usually give you a per diem daily spending allowance that you can use to pay for calls home and other incidentals

If your agency is sending you to another city for fashion week and you have not been booked on any jobs then the model pays for everything. The agency may front the cost of the flight and the hotel but this cost will all be taken out of any jobs the model is booked on. A lot of time the model ends up in debt to her agency if she doesn't book many shows.

Just watch the documentary "Picture Me" by former model Sarah Ziff or "Girl Model" by David Redmond and Ashley Sabin and you'll see interviews with models who are thousands of dollars in debt to their agencies who sent them to another country to find work and they didn't earn enough money to cover their travel costs.

Q. I am looking to possibly travel to either Hawaii or Barbados for my honeymoon in 2010. I was wondering if anyone could suggest the best place to stay if you are looking for beautiful sights, a romantic setting, but also to be close to the nightlife.

Which is better for a family vacation with kids: Maui or Barbados?

Q. I am trying to decide whether to go to Maui or Barbados for a summer vacation with my family. We have to kids. Which island is better for kids? Please only answer if you have been to both islands. Thank you!

A. I personally recommend Barbados as my family have been going for 28 years (all my life)
You don't need a visa (if UK citizen)
Cheaper, less connection flights and flying hours) more british
