Where to stay in Ohio on way to chicago from DC?

Q. I am driving to chicago from washington dc, and need opinions as to what is best town to stay in ohio, not ever expensive, and should have some activities to do.

A. It looks like the Mapquest route has you taking 270-76-70-80. I have relatives in Youngstown, did have one in Toledo, and did business near Cleveland. Here are some options:

- South Youngstown - Exit at US 224 East and stay at a place in Boardman. There is a decent red Roof Inn there. There is a very nice Holiday Inn, nicest hotel in the area, for a little more. Probably not a tremendous amount of things to do but cheaper. There is a mall nearby if that's your thing.

- Cleveland area: I've stayed on the west side in Westlake - there is a Hampton Inn that is reasonable. For a little more there is a Holiday Inn in Elyria a little farther east. Cleveland has lots to do - Rock and Roll Museum, the Flats great restaurants, Metroparks Zoo, nice lakefront, and a restaurant called Hornblowers on a boat within view of the RNRHOF. Or take in an Indians game. If you stay on the east side I would go downtown first then to the hotel - otherwise you're backtracking. There are likely hotels on the south side near I-71 though I am less familiar with that area.

- Sandusky has lots of hotels thanks to...Cedar Point, one of the most popular amusement parks in the US. It is on a peninsula on Lake Erie.

- Toledo has a very nice riverfront and some cool restaurants on the south side of the maumee river across from downtown with great views. They have a very nice and famous zoo as well.

If you like cities Cleveland Rocks :) but if you want something more resort like go with Sandusky.

Where is a good Italian restaurant in the Loop of Chicago?
Q. About 20 of us are going down the Chicago for the weekend and want some good Italian within the neighborhood of the Silversmith Hotel (10 S. Wabash). Anybody know of a place close by that isn't a chain, isn't incredibly expensive and is close enough a cab ride won't kill us on cost? Thanks in advance.

A. I agree with the others...Italian Village (71 W Monroe) is very good. Also, Tutto Italiano at 501 S. Wells or Scoozi! at 410 W Huron are both excellent. I've also heard that Petterino's at 150 N Dearborn is very good.
