Is 3000 us dollars pocket money for 2 weeks in SE Asia enough?
Q. 5 days in bangkok, 4 days in kuala lumpur, and 5 days in Singapore... Hotels and flights are already paid so the 3000 usd is only for pocket money... Is that enough? If yes, how will I divide it? Should I bring us or canadian dollars to have a better exchange rate? Tnx!

A. I think that's enough but it really depends on how much money you spend. Some people are really thrifty while others can use up a million dollars in a day. I think you should keep a lot of money for Singapore because everything there is really expensive compared to BKK and KL. You should probably save like 5 bucks for each meal as well so you always have enough money for food. I don't think changing currencies really makes a big difference but Canadian is probably better.

You should also look online for places you want to go (like Singapore Zoo) and save money just for that.

A. That's more than enough. In those 3 cities, lunch & dinner can be obtained for as low as 4 Canadian dollars per meal. Normal restaurants should set you back around 15 - 20 CAD per person without wine, and meals in fancy restaurants starts at 40 CAD per person without wine. So even though you dine at fancy restaurants for lunch and dinner every day during your entire visit, you still have enough money left for shopping with that 3000 bucks so don't worry, it's more than enough.

Of all 3 cities, Singapore is the most expensive one, so I suggest you allocate around 1,500 bucks for Singapore. Bangkok & KL is about the same, cost-wise - so allocate 750 bucks for each city.

Do your shopping in Singapore instead of in Bangkok & KL, prices are cheaper in Singapore and selection is much better.

You should always, always change your money in either Bangkok, KL, or Singapore. All of these cities give you good rates. You'll get much less if you change your money in Canada / U.S. for SURE.

U.S. Dollar will give you a slightly better exchange rate compared to CAD, but if you're Canadian and you only have Canadian Dollars in your possession, there's no need to change it to USD. Canadian Dollars get good rates in those 3 countries too.
