What is the best hotel for young couples in Boston, MA?

Q. I am looking for a good hotel for a romantic evening with my girlfriend in downtown Boston. We are both 22 years old and I wanted to bring her into the city for her birthday. I would prefer good views of the harbor or the skyline.

A. Brad, I would go with the Quincy Marriot. Compare prices with the Parker House in the down town. See what your lady thinks. Quincy is outside of Boston, but you have free parking and you are easily mobile in and around the city. Parker House you get valet but better plan on additional fees for them to take care of you.
View of the harbor in Boston may be more than your budget at 22 can afford. Seriously. If you want a good view that will cost you and difficulty parking as well. There is a Marriott on the harbor and there is the Seaport Hotel on the Pier. Google it. But don't say I didn't warn you on the prices.

Anyone know any small coastal towns to stay in between Boston and Virginia Beach?
Q. I will be traveling on the east coast for a month or so, mainly in Boston, NY, Philadelphia and D.C by Amtrak. Since I am visiting the major cities, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on small towns to stay in along the way, preferably coastal. Any recommendations on low cost places to stay would be helpful too.
Thanks!

A. The RI/CT coast is your best bet. Delaware beaches are too far from the train, NJ beaches are packed, and PA has no beaches.

Mystic, CT is perfect for you. I've been there via Amtrak. You can take a cab from the station to downtown. Downtown has good restaurants (including Mystic Pizza, featured in the movie of the same name), cute shops. There's a hotel built from a steamship docked near the drawbridge. Good cab service to the historic Mystic Seaport (living history village) and the world-class aquarium. Also close to Mohegan Sun/Foxwoods casinos. http://www.mystic.org/

New London is another good stop, because the ferry to Block Island is right across the street from the Amtrak station. Block Island is wonderful.

Westerly, RI and Old Saybrook, CT are lovely small towns with great beaches. If you get off at New Haven, you can get a local train to Milford CT, a great small quintessential non-touristy NE town. Rainbow Gardens is a great restaurant right on the town green. There are often arts fairs on weekends, concerts in the gazebo on Friday nights, plays in the small . Great cab service in town.

Providenc RI is a small city, but feels like a small town. Wonderful little museum at the RI School of Design, picturesque churches and historic buildings, great capitol building, and activities like Waterfire http://www.waterfire.org/ .

All along the coast, rates for Mon-Thurs are much better than weekends. Try bed and breakfasts.

I want to see fireworks and attend something with strong christmas spirit in Boston, where should I go?
Q. I'm coming to Boston, from Miami for Christmas. Usually, I go to hard rock with my wife (In Miami) and attend any Christmas events that is not to pricey. Its always great. Now I want to be in the snow with my wife's family (in Boston) but she doesn't know where we should go. Please advise on where to watch fireworks? Are the cruises good? Boston best cruises (pricey) vs Mass Bay Line (cheap) but both offer the same stuff, why is 1 more expensive? Where is the best place to watch fireworks? Where can we go that offers great Christmas spirit? Any idea helps, even movie that offer holiday spirit (nice decor)
I mean fireworks on new year people. Thank you

A. For Christmas spirit - I really love the Boston Pops. It may be pricey though - I have in the past been able to go for free (via work) or obtained discount tickets. There is a place called Bostix (if you are willing to risk) that offers half priced tickets the day of the show (one in Copley and one in Faneuil) - I believe they open at 10am - best time to go right when they open.

There will be other Christmas type things - like the nutcracker so if they don't have the pops, you can see or attend another type of event half price.

The fireworks are in Boston Harbor. There are many advantage points to view these any where around the harbor.

The cruises vary so much from the quality of food (if a dinner or food type cruise) to the type of crowds/entertainment. I've only more recently gone on Spirit of Boston and Odyssey - both are more expensive dinner/lunch type cruises. Odyssey a sit down dinner cruise and Spirit of Boston buffet (and less than Odyssey) - spirt leaves from Seaport Area and Odyssey behind the Boston Harbor Hotel. There is entertainment of both.

The other cruises tend to be more "booze cruises" where drinking (although they usually have a dj or band) is the main entertainment.

All the cruises are indoors with climate control so they can be nice (and pretty views) even in the winter. Although you can venture out on the deck if you want to freeze.
