is it safe for a guy to walk around in downtown chicago by himself?

Q. i will be by myself at the W hotel. I would have no fear of walking around new york or boston by myself but have never been to chicago. i would like to walk of take public transportation from here. how safe is this?

A. Sure Chicago is a generally safe city, the crime happens in areas far away from downtown so you'll have nothing to worry about if you stay downtown. And if you want to use public transportation just pick up a cta card from a Walgreens that'll be good for your entire stay, they have 1 day passes, 3 day passes, 7 day passes and 30 day passes and you'll be less that a block from the Quincy stop on the L which runs above Wells Street, you can get on the brown, orange, pink or purple line trains at that stop. The trains circle around the loop and then head back to where they start from in neighborhoods far out from downtown, there is also the red and blue lines that run in subways downtown, the red line runs under State Street and has stops at Jackson, Monroe and Lake in the loop and the blue line runs under Dearborn Street and has stops at Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Clark/Lake in the loop. The red line is the only line that has transfers with every line in the system and the Clark/Lake stop is the busiest and most complex station in the system, you would have to venture through the Thompson Center to get from the blue line to the elevated trains (brown, green, pink, purple and orange lines). Also the red and blue lines are the only lines to run 24 hours and the yellow line is the only line that doesn't come downtown, you have to take the red or purple line to Howard, but that line only goes to Skokie and has three stops including the Howard stop.

how long does it take to drive from LA to Boston?
Q. My friend is moving to Boston and we're planning on driving out there. How long would a fairly relaxed journey take?

A. I just looked it up. Going from LAX (Los Angeles Airport) to Boston Mass will be 3060.1 miles. And approx 47 hours. I would say about 55 hours for rest stops added then. And that is driving straight through w/ no hotel breaks. Hard drive though. Make sure your car is in good condition. You might be better off flying. Would be cheaper.

Can You Recommend Boston Hotels in Walking Distance from T Subway Stops?
Q. I'm planning a trip to Boston to see a concert at the House of Blues. To avoid renting a car, I'd like to take the 'T' everywhere. What hotels could anyone recommend that are close to 'T' stops (in walking distance), and preferably somewhere en route from Logan Airport to the House of Blues? Could also catch a show at the Wang Theatre. Affordability is also a consideration for me. Thanks.

A. My God! The T runs everywhere; almost all lodgings are located near a T station.

Within short walking distance of the House of Blues are the Buckminster ("moderate" by Boston standards), The Commonwealth (expensive) and a Howard Johnsons (moderate). Across the street from the Wang is a new W hotel, and next door is what used to be a Wyndham but the name may have changed, and the Park Plaza is a 5 minute walk.
