How much would a cab ride cost from North Bergen, NJ, Tonnelle Ave to Manhattan?

Q. Planning to go to NYC but can't afford hotels in Manhattan. Other questions:
Is North Bergen safe?
How long would the drive be from the hotel to Manhattan?

A. How much would a cab ride cost from North Bergen, NJ, Tonnelle Ave to Manhattan?
-A minimum of $30 plus $8.00 ($6.00 off-peak with E-ZPass) in tolls. If you hit heavy traffic, that could double to $60 or more.

Is North Bergen safe?
-Yes! I had friends who liked and lived there until they could afford to move to Long Island. Weehawken isn't too far away as well and is 5 minutes away from NYC via ferry.

How long would the drive be from the hotel to Manhattan?
-Normally 30 minutes but if you have traffic, it could take up to an hour. If you're in a taxi, you'll be throwing your money away on waiting time unless the driver is nice enouh to give you a flat fee.

Tips:
Public/Private Shuttles to cut taxi fare.

Weekhawken NJ hotel. Is it cheaper than yours in North Bergen? If so, for $5, you can be back in NYC on the ferry.

How are hotels rated on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?
Q. How are hotels rated on a scale of 1-5 stars? What companies give out ratings? What are the ratings for the Ritz-Carltons, the Four Seasons, and the Roosevelt hotels in Manhattan. Can you give a short list on what hotel chains would rank on the scale 1-5 stars?

Thanks!

A. It varies on the hotel and the customer service. Like a nasty disgusting hotel with horrible service is maybe going to get a one star rating. However, a hotel that has good customer service and a nice atmosphere is going to get a higher rating. AAA uses diamonds instead of stars for ratings. But travel companies have ratings based on the customer feedback for the hotel visit.

http://ezinearticles.com/?How-Hotels-Are-Rated&id=5672029 <--- This mentions what you would get for a one star, two star, three star, four star and five star hotel. Like a Marriott would be about a four star rating.

Included are some other sites that explain about the rating as well. Hope it helps. :)
