How much money do I need to travel around Australia for one month and what places good to visit?

Q. Hi.
How much money do I need to travel around Australia for one month?
Considering I might be living in a relative's place for maybe 3 days and the rest wandering around, living in budget hotels (with minimal belongings but not backpacking either)

Do suggest some great locations and cities to visit for experiencing their culture, language and scenery (Ayers Rock, Great Barrier Reef). I don't really care for those overrated commercialised touristy places (eg Gold Coast, Sea world etc)

Also, what is good advice for travelling within Australia by domestic flights to get cheapest fare and shortest distance?

A book/website recommendation on how to plan an Australian tour will be appreciated.

Thank you.

A. Lonely Planet is good and generally pretty up to date.
I couldn't even guess how much money you would need, my advice to you is, once you work out an amount, double it. Then you should be right.
I'd say allow $50 a night for accommodation and food minimum, extra for bus and train fares, entry fees, etc.
Airfares fluctuate wildly, the 3 main carriers are Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Blue, check their sites because you may get good deals online, or else sites like www.flightcentre.com.au list all fares for all airlines.
Touristy places should be avoided at all costs, but my must-sees are Sydney, Cairns, Melbourne, Alice Springs and everywhere in between.
You are best off researching all this and like I said at the start, the Lonely Planet website is good, as is www.australia.com

How can I reserve a hotel room at a hotel that is booked?
Q. I want to stay at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, TX December 31 - January 3 and am told the hotel is booked. I've stayed there last year and know it is a very large hotel and I assume there are some rooms they hold on reserve. For anyone in the know, is there any chance I have at getting one of these rooms?

A. Sometimes hotels hold rooms in reserve for agents and, I assume, for travel websites, e.g. Travelocity, Expedia, etc. You might try those or a travel agent, e.g. AAA, if you're a member.

What's the easiest and cheapest way to book a flight and hotel to Vegas?
Q. What's the easiest way to book a flight and room together for vegas? I want a nonstop flight so that makes booking on discount sites difficult. Should I go to the hotels website and book both the flight and room together or book the flight and room separately?

A. The best way to get a great deal is to book them separately. For flights, check sites like Southwest airlines, Allegiant Air or US Airways. Also do a search on kayak engine. It will check all airlines going to Vegas and all major travel sites and return the cheapest fare. http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/cheap-flights.php

For hotels, book directly from the hotels using their discount promo codes to get the maximum discounts. Here are a few codes.
