How can I get the best deal going from Chicago to Las Vegas?

Q. I want to go to a conference in Vegas March 19th and returning March 22. I currently do not have the money now to go, so it might be a week or two until I can pay for this, so where do I look for the best deal? Do I go on travelocity or those sites? I know I can get a flight and hotel deal package but how do I search this? Is going out of O'Hare cheaper or Midway? Can I get a better deal if it is at the last minute?

A. Try www.unusedrooms.com for flight tickets. When I checked the price for a one way ticket was $342.
Just a point is to check the flight price a few days either side of your date. I just booked a LA Miami trip and by going 2 days earlier saved over $100. If you can be flexible with your dates this is a good way to go.

Flight and hotel deals from Phoenix to DC?
Q. I want to visit DC for the 4th of July and I have no idea where to begin looking for flight and/or hotel deals. Does anybody know of any websites I can check out that would help me with that? Also, I would love suggestions on what to do while I'm over there, as I've never been there before. I really appreciate you taking time to answer my questions.

A. For flights, I would look at http://www.kayak.com/ http://www.orbitz.com/ http://www.expedia.com/ http://www.skyscanner.com/ These should only be used for a reference to find the cheapest flight. The cheapest booking of a flight is almost always on the airliner's website. Booking on sites like Orbitz and the like are usually a few dollars or more than booking your flight directly with the airline.

For hotels, look up http://www.hotels.com/ or http://www.expedia.com/

I would go visit the Lincoln Memorial, go to the National Archives, go to the Library of Congress, visit congress and tell them to get to work (joking), stalk your politician of choice (also joking). Look at things listed on http://washington.org/100-free-and-almost-free-things-do-dc

How do you get the best rate on hotels?
Q. OK we all see these ads on TV about getting cheap last minute hotel deals. Well I cant seem to find any of these deals and was wondering if anyone knows any tricks or tips to getting the best rates. I am going on a weekend stay in Savannah and everything I see on the low rate websites is just as much as if I booked through the hotel. Anybody out there have any suggestions?

A. I know what you mean, whenever I check priceline, hotwire, or the other websites that say they have cheaper rates, i always find them to really be more expensive than booking from the hotel directly.

What I do when i want a low rate on a hotel is constantly, probably obsessively, watch the hotel's rates and as soon as i see that they are cheaper than usual i book my room. Not all, but most hotels will give you the cheaper rate if rates drop again after you book it, you would have to call to ask for them to do this though.

If you don't care what hotel you stay at you could try Priceline name your own price. I did this when going to Newport, RI for 2 nights and i got a room that was $240 a night on the hotel website for only 90$ a night.
