Are there internet sites that offer lower hotel rates than the hotels do?

Q. I see some travel and hotel sites offering discounts and claiming lower rates than the hotels themselves offer. Is this true? For instance, Excalibur is offering $51 a night, but are there any other sites (such as hotelclub) that offer discounts on this, or cheaper rates than this?

A. Vegas.com sometimes has better deals. I tried Priceline once, and even though it said the hotel was ON the strip, it was about a block behind it. We ended up at a nice hotel, but if this is your first time to vegas stay at one of the main casino/hotels ON the strip.

How can I upgrade an already-purchased hotel room on Travelocity?
Q. We purchased a hotel room in New York about a month back on Travelocity. However, we will now have an additional traveler with us, and the room that we booked will not be big enough to accommodate him as well. Is it possible to upgrade that room through Travelocity, or should I call the hotel? Travelocity gave me a discounted rate on this room, and I am worried that, if I call the hotel, I will have to pay full fare to upgrade my room.

A. call the hotel directly and see what they will do for you. You can always keep the room that you have and have one sleep on the floor!

How can I get a discount at Marriott Resort at Grande Dunes Myrtle Beach?
Q. The rates are $310 a night, it seems like with economy alot of hotels would have empty rooms and therefore have better discounted rates. Orbitz and Travelocity both show $310 does anyone know any other tricks to get rate way down? Ps. Our only week open for vacation is 7/18-26.

Thanks in advance!

A. You can try this site for coupons to get discounts.
